How does this work on surface rust that cannot be soaked?** A: For areas that's cannot be submerged I have taken paper towels soaked in Evaporust and wrapped the part. Do a few layers and make sure there are no air pockets or that area will not be treated. Follow the paper towels with a layer of plastic wrap to keep the product from evaporating and again watch out for air bubbles. Inspect, re-soak and re-wrap every few hours. For heavy rust I hit the surface with a wire wheel first. The Evaporust Gel might be more suited to this method. **Q: Will this be safe to clean steal scuba tank in side and help prevent rust** A: I'm a dive master and certified tank inspector. If you have rust in your tank you should have it professionally inspected. You "could" use this but if there is pitting or other dammage it would cripple the tank and potentially make it unsafe to fill. Not sure about any residue this might leave that could contaminate the air, so I would say probably better stick to tumbling to remove light rust. Your dive shop can do this or should know of a service center that can. **Q: My metal is covered with sticky goo after I left evapo-rust on it. I want to avoid water rinse due to flash rust. how do you rinse this off?** A: With the evapo rust, you need to make sure there are no oils, grease, etc prior to being on the metal when you soak the evapo rust. Once you soak the evapo rust and the rust has been removed, the product has done its job. You do want to wash it off afterwards and dry it. To keep it from re rusting is another problem in of itself. We have a product called rust block that comes in either a trigger spray or aerosol can. Spray a layer of it on there and it will keep the object from re- rusting for up to a year **Q: If I soak a tool, will it ruin a wooden handle (like a chisel)?** A: I have soaked many old tools with wooden handles with little change to the wood. Given that “wood doesn’t like water”, I try to keep the soak time as short as possible. I rinse and rub with fine steel wool. I dry with a hair dryer to prevent rusting. Final step is light oiling. I'm off to try some drill bits now. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works really well *by T***C on 11 August 2018* Having read good reviews on-line and seen the success on YouTube,, I purchased a couple of containers and gave it a go. The items have to be submerged in the solution and I've found that agitating them regularly and rubbing over the surface with your fingers helps to speed things up a little. I've found it to be very good and it does indeed remove the rust back to bare metal within around 24 hours with no visible damage to the item being de-rusted. I have used the solution multiple times and it continues to work well. Once it eventually runs out of de-rusting capacity, I will definitely get some more. Since this is a solution and the items need dunking into it, its not ideal for larger items. Tests against gel product shows that this seems to work far better than they do. To conserve the amount of fluid needed during de-rusting, I've used empty 1.5L fizzy drink plastic bottles, buckets and even drain pipe with a stopper on the end as containers, so think laterally about how you will submerge the item whilst using the smallest amount of solution possible.
