This 2-CD package includes the album Montgomeryland, as well as The Montgomery Brothers and Five Others. Both are from the earlier part of the guitarist's career, in the late 50's, and as such they sound more traditional, less adventurous than his later offerings. There is some quality playing here, by both Wes and his sidemen, but overall the music is less to my taste than, say, his trio work on such classics as 'Boss Guitar'. Still, for the money it's a good deal and there's more than enough good stuff here to justify the price tag.

CD 1: Montgomeryland & CD 2: The Montgomery Brothers & Five OthersThis new compilation brings together 2 classic jazz guitar albums both originally released on the Pacific Jazz label in the late 1950s (1959 & 1957). John Leslie "Wes" Montgomery (March 6, 1923 - June 15, 1968) was an American jazz guitarist. He is unanimously considered one of the major jazz guitarists, emerging after such seminal figures as Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian and influencing countless others, including Pat Martino, George Benson, Emily Remler, Kenny Burrell, Pat Metheny, and Jimi Hendrix.  The running time for this set is approx 108 minutes.liner notes by Peter Gamble. Great sound quality throughout and a great value package from Not Now Music. Ideal for the collector or those wanting to build a collection of jazz guitar recordings.
