The lighter has a safety mechanism that prevents accidental release of any gas or flame when kept in you pocket or backpack.The lighter is extremely reliable and worked every time for the three years up until the day I lost it, I replaced it with this new one immediately as it was available on a next day delivery.The gas filling adapter is a cost option not included with the lighter, but is a must have if you use camping gas cylinders, as the adapter lets you refill the lighter from your camping gas cylinder.
