## Description

Flap valves of Karmat are innovative devices protecting rooms on the lower levels against flooding caused by backward flow of storm water and sewage. These devices are fully self-activating. Flap valves effectively protect plumbing systems from rats entering the buildings. Flap valves are installed at the end of sanitary sewage pipes entering collection wells, cesspits or drainage pipes leading storm water to ditches or rivers. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will it seal against smell?**
A: The flap is only kept closed by gravity and opens when a pressure of water pushes it open. I would imagine that as long as it is closed any smells would be kept at bay but would be released if it opens to let liquid out. It is not primarily designed to keep out odours.

**Q: What if the outlet pipe has a slight fall to it, does that prevent the flap from closing properly or should last length of pipe be horizontal ?**
A: 1 depends on the fall but if you put the outlet level then you get the best advantage.  Mine works well with a 1 to 40 slope.
