The defoamer agent goes into the small container and the waste water collected is sucked up and into the small front area that is removable with the handle. If you have not bought the machine yet I would adviseyou to buy another type or get it elsewhere as my pump broke and the company is refusing the pay for postage to repair their Faulty product and it was only 3 months old also they are saying if it was user abuse they will charge for repair. It was not user abuse but I would probably guess they will try and say it was just so that they get me to pay more money to them. There are better machines in the market and if I get this issue resolved I will be buyong a different make. **Q: I have a fairly large carpet area and am an older buyer. Is it heavy to move the nozzles round when cleaning?** A: Not at all, the nozzles are light. If you need to move the whole machine up some stairs, then the two water tanks should be removed first, and if you are able-bodied there is no problem. However, like a Vax or say a Rug Doctor etc, don't expect professional results. The machines are small and therefore, the vacuum motors are small and do not have the power. I.always say that if you want carpets cleaned properly and dry in hours then get them professionally cleaned by a recommended operator. The machine is only one part of the cleaning process. You need to vacumm, apply the right solution,then agitate into the carpet to bring the dirt to the surface. Fast forward a few months and there isn't much that still works as it should! Plastic clips on the hose have snapped, water/solution leaks from the quick connect coupler, narrow upholstery tool has began to separate and has a tendency to snag. The top cover/lid has very brittle plastic, resulting in it cracking round the compartment seal which makes it vibrate when in use and is super noisy. Initially went to source new parts which amount to near enough the cost of a new machine. I noticed that i had only purchased the machine around 6 month previous so enquired about the warranty and was asked to provide pictures. Pictures sent and reply was blunt. Nothing covered under warranty as apparently "the machine looked as though its had a hard life". I purchased the item to make my job easier and attain better results, not to sit on a shelf and look good. As this machine was much more expensive than my first machine i did expect a lot better. Now unsure whether or not to purchase the spares or just cut my losses and bin it! All in a rather poor item backed up by poor customer service and a warranty that's not worth the paper its written on.
