The most common are kitty litter and diatomaceous earth. This is different as far as I can tell - I want to say it's polymer based as it's super light weight and fluffy when dry, but I could be totally wrong.Either way, I was ordering this by the 3 lb jugs when they were cheap, but inflation happened and those are now 3x what I paid before, so I looked for bulk quantity. 25 lbs was right around $1/lb when I bought it (shipped), so I was happy and will have a long time supply. It works great for oil and water based spills in the garage. Just sprinkle some over the area, push with a broom, and collect when the spill is gone. I've heard you can also use it to help with old stains, but I haven't tried that. It doesn't take much material to absorb a small spill, and if you have a really large spill, you might consider dams and pads instead to collect the mess first, then follow up with this material.Fun side fact - Costco near me uses this in their spill kits.
