As disgusting as it may sound, because of the thin plastic like layer above the mesh it actually blocks spit from hitting the microphone itself too. However it doesn't affect your voice from reaching the microphone from the intended angle. The product may be viewed as "pricey" for what is simply a pop filter, but I guarantee you'll go through 2-3 cheaper ones and end up buying this in the end anyway. For how expensive it is, I'm shocked at how useless it really is. I've done some tests of speaking normally with words beginning with P, B, T, or S, and this guard does absolutely nothing to stop the popping down the mic. I took this off, put my old £5 nylon filter back on, and voila, no popping. I can't believe how much this item is being sold for for how useless it is.
