I didn't want to spend too much on my first pair but appreciated I'd need to spend a little to get a decent pair. I took these to Cornwall and Isles of Scilly on holiday to bird watch/use on boats for nature safaris and they were great. Crystal clear and easy to use. Magnification level was perfect. Due to the magnification (10x42) you need to have reasonably steady hands however which was tricky on boats and made it a little difficult to hold steady where an 8x42 pair may have been easier. I prioritised the magnification however. Love the protective end caps being attached to the binoculars themselves and the case is helpful. I'd happily recommend these as a good pair of bins for beginners who want a decent pair. I hear they compare to more expensive brands but can't comment as I've not used any other than these and my partners cheap pair - and the clarity on these was far superior.
