I was able to rip (2) Deutsche Grammophon CDs to Apple Music and then it quit: it doesn’t matter whether the CD is CBS, EMI, Deutsche Grammonphon or one that I burned myself on an older Mac, Disc Utility can't mount them and (formerly iTunes) Music can’t read them. They show up on the desktop as “Audio CD.” **Q: Can this be used to install windows 10 without the need to somehow install a driver first? it's rather tough to do that when trying to install an os.** A: People are really making this sound hard just plug it into your computer and do any scans it ask I put it on windows 8 and 10 computers. I already ripped 1000 CD's and put them on my MP-4 player and on a Flash Drive in case of a computer crash. I like my type of music not the crap on the radio today and you don't have to listen to everybody's opinion about everything. **Q: Does this play games like sims 2?** A: It's played all my games without so much of a skip. **Q: Does this work with windows 8?** A: It should work with Windows 8 though I only used with Windows 10. If you insert a DVD and a video player does not start up, you may need a player that will recognize the drive. On a recommendation from a friend, I installed "VLC media player" and this app opens when I insert a DVD into the Riodadas player. VLC is a free and open source media player that works with all Windows versions. Fairly easy to install & use. *by M***I on May 27, 2025* I'm not technically inclined, so it did take a bit of time to download the necessary app. [BTW, device works only with the proprietary app.] I've only used one commercial DVD so far [Dexter so, if it matters.] But playback went well, nice & crisp, good sound. I don't need a bunch of bells & whistles, just the typical viewing-- play, FF, REW, pause, skip. Those worked just fine.. CONS I would have liked a 10-30 second rewind, as I sometimes miss a sentence or piece of action. The disc tray is slow to respond & needs to be manually extended to place/remove the disc. I've heard this is standard on an external drive, but it still bothers me. All in all, it does all it needs to & is worth the money. The cable is short.
