Seems to be just heavy weight fabric with no treatment applied. **Q: How can I soften it ?** A: Use it and wash it - it does slowly soften. **Q: Can this apron be made more flexible and if so how** A: Keep washing it **Q: Are the straps and leather details faux leather or real?** A: Faux. The adjustable straps are of heavy cotton(?) tape, which are fixed through eyelets either side at the top, cross over your back, loop through eyelets at the waist and joint together at the back using a two piece plastic buckle of the type common on backpacks and bum-bags. I altered these as it means you have to put the apron on over your head through a jumble of loose tapes, and as the neck tape is not a simple loop, you have no way of hanging it up. I changed this by cutting the tapes short from the top, long enough to to put on the buckle and allow adjustment, and sewing the remaining tape to the waist eyelets and using a similar buckle to adjust at the back, though the tapes are a generous length and you could probably tie them.
