We live in a warmer climate and our caterpillars tend to grow quickly. I'd say within 2 weeks they go from caterpillars to butterflies. Watching them grow bigger each day is so fun. This is a great gift for kids of all ages. Just make sure they have the other necessary accessories before you send them a cup of caterpillars!

This was super fun for my pre-k class. 8 out of 10 of them turned into butterflies. I would recommend getting the lid holder log too. I did not and the butterflies emerged inside the little cups. It was cramped.

We received our caterpillars but not all of them survived. When trying to see what could be done they wanted me to ship back the dead caterpillars! Some have made their cocoons but the dead ones are on the bottom of the jar.
