A lot of headphones/speakers will lean one way or another on the equalizing scale (ie. beats overdrive the bass).These seem of have clear/clean bass with just the right amount of mids and high frequency response. They do have a fair amount of sound leakage in a quiet room so be aware of that, but I personally don't like or care about sound leakage or complete sound canceling. When i'm listening to music I can't hear anything else but when the music stops and can hear people talking, etc, etc.Could not be happier with my purchase. (Most of the time I'm not using a preamp, unless I'm listening to records, and these are plenty loud enough and have great sound quality from laptops/phoes/ipods/etc/etc.).
