You can use the GE-1996T with your existing locking nut, or buy a Gotoh locking nut of the correct size separately. **Q: Is this a great and or better replacement for a Floyd 1000 series? And will it fit?** A: Yes, I've replaced two Floyd Rose Specials and one Jackson licensed Floyd Rose with a Gotoh GE-1996T. The base plate size is the same, but there are two areas you need to be concerned about: the sustain block length and the size of the routed cavity for the string clamp bolts in the back. For some reason, most of the Gotohs I find online have the 40mm sustain block where the springs attach in the back. On some guitars, this is too long and you won't be able to put the back plate on. In a very thin guitar it may even stick out the back slightly. Measure your current sustain block to be sure the Gotoh will fit your guitar. The next issue is to measure how far back the routed cavity extends. With the intonation set correctly, the string clamp bolt hit the back of the cavity on one of my guitars. I had to move it in slightly to make it fit, so my low E string isn't perfectly intonated. On the other two that wasn't an issue. **Q: Will this drop into an ibanez rg 470? any mods need to be done?** A: This will not fit the RG470 because this 40mm block is too long. It will stick out the back of the guitar. You need the 33mm block model. I had to source it on EBay and was a comparable price. It is a perfect fit.
