Review: I now use these every day. Great but *not flat*. - I didn't budget for these; they came up on a really great sale so i got them. Everything is fine, and the main selling point for me is the phono preamp, which means i don't have to drag out any hifi gear; just get my turntable and off to the races. Easy to use. More than loud enough for me, and decent sounding when they're not cranked. Input connections are all great; it's what you would want from modern bluetooth bookshelf speakers. I wish you could flip R/L L/R so that if you wanted to place the speaker with the plug on the left side of your desk/shelf, you could just do it. But the right speaker has the power so you always have to place it on the right (if you care about that). One thing i will say is that manufacturers calling something "reference monitor" is ONLY accurate if the freq response is truly FLAT (or as close to it as possible, given the budget). As others have noted, these speakers and NOT flat; they're slightly hyped at both ends. Idk if this is by design for less than prosumers, or if it's due to limitation of the components (again, at this price range). But anyone looking for truly flat monitoring should look at different speakers. Personally i do have great reference monitors, hooked to a great power amp. These klipsch speakers sit on top of them lol. Just super easy to use your phone or one of your laptops with the BT speakers (i work remote alot).
Review: Awesome highs and mids. Clear sound seperation, GREAT for movies, pretty good for music - For the price these speakers are amazing. They sound great right out of the box, super easy to set up and they arent too big and bulky. I work as a stage tech and monitor technician for a production company and have an associates in audio engineering so i have a decent ear, but am by no means an expert in audio. For my ears, the r51pms are great. The distinct seperation of sounds/instruments is REALLY good; very evident when watching movies. Ive seen Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban 100 times... ive never noticed that in the scene in the beginning where harry is discussing Sirius Blacks' whereabouts with arthur that percy weasily is magically pouring coffee in the background UNTIL watching that film using these speakers. I could clearly hear liquid pouring on the left side of the soundstage and then for the first time looked in that direction and saw that! It was kind of mind blowing lol For music id say they are ok. Im used to hearing music through a DB Technologies Vio 20 box line array rig flown in the air and through 8 massive Vio subs mixed well using a m32 in large venues at work; so im kind of a harsh judge, but at home these sound great when paired with the klipsch r120sw. If your main use of these will be to listen to music then i would DEFINITELY recommend a sub woofer... even if you cant afford a sub maybe opt for the r41pms instead and take that money you save and add it towards a sub. The r51pms dont have enough low end output for me personally. Even the r100sw wasnt enough, but when i got the 120sw it made everything come together. Im EXTREMELY satisfied with the audio quality with the 51pms and the 120sw its a match made in heaven. My ONLY complaint is the remote.... by itself its perfectly fine BUT for some reason i guess it operates on the same frequency as my tv remote (insignia qled 55 inch) and when i turn down the speakers IT REWINDS MY SHOWS/VIDEO!!!! SO FRUSTRATING so i have to press down on the tv remote to take it off the scroll bar of the content to like the subtitle setting or whatever it is for that specific application, THEN turn down the speakers, other wise the klipsch remote will rewind my content. Super super annoying.... i guess i have to get a universal remote or something idk. As far as the build qaulity... its klipsch. They are nice lol. I personally dont really care how a speaker looks if it sounds good, but even i gotta admit the copper drivers look nice. I keep the fabric mesh covers (which is nice and thick and uses magnets) on them so they are blacked out in the background when watching movies and i dont see them but they are pleasant to look at with or without the covers. The "wood" grain laminent is nice too. Gotta give klipsch a 5/5 on the build quality. All in all i would give them a 4 out of 5 (just bc of lack of bass frequency) but when paired with a sub they are an easy 5 out of 5. Definitely recommend! Especially for watching movies

## Questions & Answers

**Q: what is a3.5mm jack?**
A: A 3.5mm jack is an audio jack, often used with, but not limited to, headphones. Sometimes used as an auxiliary port on various electronics. The Imperial measurement is 1/8 inch or 1/8". The jack is the female end. The plug is the male end.

**Q: Do these cut out lower frequency (crossover) to the speaker when a subwoofer is connected?**
A: Yes, internal non-adjustable crossover applies when rca cable is plugged into klipsch rear sub out.

**Q: is this one speaker or a pair ?**
A: It’s a pair and the speakers are great.

**Q: I just bought this set and they are great but can i hook them up to a receiver?**
A: YES, OF COURSE you can hook them up to your receiver. Look for a "line out" RCA posts that match the speaker's "phono" they call it, but be sure to flip the switch to "line level". Phono is for phonograph. Yes, Seriously. It's more sensitive because a stylus doesn't put out much energy. So if it sounds like garbage, check that the switch is correct. If your receiver has a line output, you can hook these to it, no problem. The amp without speakers can't use any power, so no worries.
If you have a TV with no line out, buy an optical to line out box. They're very tiny and use a 5 volt power supply and they convert your audio from optical to line level audio. Then just patch that to your speakers. What's odd is that each speaker has a left and right input. That's because it's like other USB speakers. You can hook them up in different ways. One is to hook one wire from your left white RCA to your left speaker and another cable from your receiver over to your right red RCA plug on the other speaker, or whichever way you've got it. Mine are this way.
You get much better sound with amplified speakers and they explain why very well in this page. Speaker's reproduction is usually pretty awful, even if you think they sound pretty good, if it's even 3db louder at 1khz, this means you're going to hear 1khz pitch TWICE AS LOUD. SO, +/-3db as you see on specs all the time, that's horrible. I didn't know this until I got good powered speakers. "WOW, I can hear everything."
They've taken the peculiarities of the speaker and then corrected them in the amplifier.
Plus since there are always losses when sending power on long lines, having the amp only a few inches from your speaker is good. It's like those tiny jump starting batteries. I have one. The wires aren't big but they're really short and it will crank my 4.0 liter engine without problems whereas with a set of battery cables with wires many times larger, it will not turn over.
Whatever you do, if your TV does not have audio line outs, be sure to write your TV manufacturer a nasty letter for leaving off the line out audio connectors on their lousy TVs. Don't forget. It's so bad.
The optical to line level audio, it's full blast and it doesn't respond to the level with your remote. It can even be muted but it's full blast out of the converter. Who would make an expens LED TV and NOT provide line outs? LG. Terrible. Poor design. You tell 'em.
So what do you do? You buy a Google TV box. Hook that to your internet and you stream your video in that way and the audio is simple to control with any Google TV remote. I like the Rii remotes. They have a touchpad on it and a little keyboard. The keys are backlit so you can see them in the dark.
Putting studio monitors on my TV was a great decision. Getting a BBE Sonic maximizer for my TV was just as great. Really brings it to life.
BTW, I found a really nice subwoofer RCA cables on Amazon and got 2, so I could hook each speaker up. Those crummy little patch cables are fine for 6" between components, right? but for 6 ft? ... not so good. These subwoofer RCA cables are very well built. they'll last you. And, It's a lot like my jumper cable analogy. The larger wire preserves the sound quality and quantity.
Remember, "If all else fails, read the directions".

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best powered speakers I've ever heard
*by D***E on November 10, 2023*

Snagged these on sale and I have to say that for that money I don't think anything else will come close. Even at the original full price I think they're worth the money. I've had these on my wishlist for a long time now and I'm not disappointed. I will say first that the lack of any sort of crossover control is something that could be improved in a future version. I would be tempted to pay a little bit extra for that flexibility. I definitely like the strong bass at low volume. That's a really sweet feature. I've previously owned a Klipsch subwoofer, that used to clear off all the dust in the room anytime there was an explosion in a soundtrack, so I'm used to their quality which really helped with the purchase decision for me. That said, the first thing that I noticed when listening for the first time was the phenomenal bass response. Are you kidding me - it's like there's a subwoofer in the room. That's why I made the comment about an adjustable crossover. The bass isn't overpowering at all. It does take a little trial and error to find the right distance from the wall for the best bass, of course. I'd like to see a future version with equally good bass but front ported if possible. I realize that would require a larger cabinet but it would give the option to wall mount. I have them in my home office in a spare bedroom for an idea of room size. My last bookshelf size speakers were Polks powered by a high current receiver and they didn't have this much punch. I absolutely love the bass. This is an apartment so I'm afraid to really crank them up. I think I'd be in trouble pretty fast if I did. The rest of the sound is great too. I was afraid of getting listening fatigue from the horn tweeters but OMG. I would definitely not call these overbright. They're wonderful to listen to. For example stuff by Sleeping Pandora sounds really nicely mixed when I listen on these. It can be difficult to make it sound good on inexpensive systems. "Sorrow", by Pink Floyd is breathtaking because that bass solo at the beginning really shines with these. My other listening option is a pair of Byerdynamic studio headphones and these are every bit as enjoyable. I get goosebumps. I don't know if I believe in "break in" for speakers but as good as they sound initially it'll only get better. Bluetooth was super easy to connect out of the box. At first the tablet didn't find them from across the room but after bringing it a lot closer, doing the pairing, it was fine after that from anywhere that I would expect to be able to use Bluetooth. I like being able to basically use my tablet as a music system remote for queuing up music and stuff. I know it doesn't sound as good as wired but when I want higher quality I just plug it in to the headphone jack. I'm using the USB for sound in Windows and Linux and that was seamless to set up. The quality is phenomenal. I've been collecting vinyl from independent bands on Bandcamp and hopefully will be able to get a turntable soon, so the preamp was as much a selling point for me as the Bluetooth. I really appreciate all the connection options on these. It's a main reason why they were at the top of the list for powered speakers that I was considering. Highly recommend. 10/10
