At first read, I was like ‘wow, this is sort of sad and this owl is a bozo.’ But it was given to us by an aunt so we read it to our kid anyways. Not only did he have an immediate and visceral reaction (he was about a month old at the time), but it is one of the only books that continues to make the cut year after year during mom’s chaotic Marie Kondo purges. We still regularly pick this up as a comfort read and even used it for Halloween costume inspiration one year. The reason I am reviewing it now is because I continue to buy this book whenever anyone is having a baby so it keeps serving me a ‘do you want to review?’ button and I felt it was warranted to finally write one so people know to buy this book because it is an absolute classic. I have almost all the books from this author. I love reading the stories and my toddler enjoys them as they are short, funny and cute. I also love the illustrations.
