When combined with enhanced backhaul, 4G means faster speeds, where data transfers take less time to complete.AT&T has upgraded the software of its nationwide mobile broadband network with HSPA+ which, with enhanced backhaul, enables speeds up to 4x faster than AT&T's already fast mobile broadband speeds. And now, AT&T is evolving to even faster 4G speeds with the launch of AT&T's 4G LTE technology in select markets.Backhaul is one of the major pieces of a telecommunications network. Think of it as the limbs connecting AT&T's cell towers with AT&T's backbone network that provides access to the Internet. How does AT&T 4G differ from other 4G networks?AT&T is the only network offering two layers of 4G technology: HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul and LTE, both capable of delivering 4G speeds. Customers will have access to fast speeds as they move in and out of 4G LTE areas. Customers of competitors who do not have HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul are likely to see a steep drop-off in speeds when they move out of LTE areas. In areas where either AT&T's 3G or 4G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways.Optional AT&T ServicesAT&T Navigator: This premium GPS navigation application includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). Solid phone, still horrid battery!

*by R***D on Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2013*

First off I have had many many phones, all the iphones, except the newest one, the original one x, galaxy s3, Note 1 and 2......all are good phones, but each a course has flaws, I could rant on about each, but for this specific phone, the one x+ I will just stay on topic.I was waiting for this phone for a looong time! I had the one x, liked it, but memory and battery weren't the best! I don't use a lot of apps, I don't play many games, I am all about internet, video, listen to music in the car, video taking, and picture taking! So first off the pro's! The camera is great!! I love it! Burst mode is an excellent, but yet almost standard feature on high end smartphones today. Video quality was great as well! I don't get super picky like your youtube reviews where they are comparing one picture on a phone to another. However, the camera is a huge selling point. The unibody is great!! The feel is outstanding, one of the very very few phones I did not want a case on, but for my OCD, I got a slim snap case from casemate....good quality btw!As for the phone, amazing screen! I actually don't mind sense or even touchwiz (for those who don't know, its the background operating system used on androids, except say the nexus, if you want a 100% android phone, get the nexus, samsung = touchwiz, HTC = sense.Sense is well done, the layout is very nice!! I had zero complaints!! It doesn't interfere too much with the "jelly bean" experience where as Samsungs newer models with touchwiz seem to be a little much at times! (Again, my opinion). Now if your reading this your wondering whats wrong? Honestly not much! The reason I gave it three stars was first due to the memory. Its fine, 32 gb. However, remember apps and music off amazon take up space pretty fast! Also no SD cart slot, why? I think each company is pulling for a cloud service of some kind, which is good and bad.The camera on the back, next the to the stunning screen, is the crown jewel! But it sticks out, not as much as the One X I don't think, but even to where a case was needed mostly to protect the lens!! It will scratch!!!! If I were to put it on a table naked, no case or bumper, the lens could hit the surface! More of an OCD thing for me!Finally what killed it for me was the battery. Yes, they (HTC) say its improved, but if your living in a LTE area, plus the faster processor drain the battery! I have been on many forums and read people state they can get a 8 hrs out of it without a charge, I drained my battery like I always do, but every time I would look at it, even with the power saver on, the battery would drop greatly! I am talking 10% in an hour or so and this is on stand by, like normal, I even had it stop checking my mail every 15 min. to see if that would help and it didn't. I put a 3rd party battery saver app and it worked great! But you become disconnected from the net per say, so I would unlock my phone, check the mail and boom, 20 new messages. This is ok if your not relying on e-mail but if you are, it sucks! In the end I had to give in for time being to the Note 2. However, I love HTC and their phones, but the battery really just ruins the whole experience. If you want a phone for texting and a little net surfing here and there then this may be fine, but for those who want to play music, watch videos, record, etc. You will get very annoyed with the non removable battery!! Hope this helps!! Now I should probably work! ah ha!

    Mostly good...

*by B*** on Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2013*

The phone does everything an android phone should do. It is fast. The display is sharp. It's as good looking as any hunk of plastic in this form factor. But it does fail on one very important point...The bluetooth sucks.I don't know why; but connecting to three different bluetooth earpieces from two different manufacturers, the phone quality coming or going just isn't up to standards (although the media quality is just fine). I'm hoping they will release a software fix for this (I read somewhere where a rooted phone had its' bluetooth driver replaced and the sound quality improved).A phones primary mission should be Phone Calls! Everything else should add to that. Sadly, I'm beginning to feel that many manufacturers are focusing more on the mini-tablet functions instead of the phone call quality.UPDATE 11-May-14:This phone is now getting a little long in the tooth (it's been over a year since purchase, which is practically an eternity in cell phone age). It works just fine. The bluetooth issue was resolved with a new code load. The only thing I'm not entirely thrilled with at this point is that the battery cannot be replaced. It hasn't been an issue, yet; but I suspect it is coming. I'd really like to break the new phone every 18 months cycle. Anyhow, I boosted the rating to four stars since the bluetooth is now working well.

    Problem after Problem

*by R***. on Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2013*

I figured I would wait a while to review this phone. It is my first smartphone, though I had an iPod Touch before it. I was expecting it to be fast, and last a good amount of the day.The good:It looks absolutely brilliant. I love the design, and the phone feels so substantial. Friends often comment, even now, that my phone looks like it's new. The screen only has one or two scratches. The screen is beautiful. Images and videos are so crisp. And the brightness is great. It has 64gb of storage. I've so far used 15gb, and I love knowing I can store my whole music library on my phone.Their customer support seems excellent. I have only contacted them once, but I got a response THE SAME DAY! That's unheard of in customer support. The guy was really helpful too.The Bad:The battery life is abysmal. With 4g off, wifi on, and the screen on for about 1hr, my battery drops 40%. I did not expect anything amazing from the battery, but I thought it would be better than that. These are the results with "battery saver" on. With it off, the battery drains insanely fast. The speed. My friend's Droid Bionic is over 2 years old, and my quad core phone is choppier than his. We have tested this time and time again, and he beats my phone at simple tasks like opening and closing three programs quickly. Opening up chrome, opening up and sending a text. All simple functions I expect my phone to do without any lag. But there is always lag. In everything I do.Playing music is sometimes also an issue. Look around at forums and you will find this problem. Basically the audio gets really jittery and cuts out. When this happens, the whole phone becomes unusable for 5-20 seconds. The screen doesn't turn on, or if you are using the phone, it will freeze. This problem is rare, but it always seems to strike when I need to use my phone for something urgent. It heats up very quickly. Everyone I've lent my phone to tells me it is way too hot. I don't have to do much for it to heat up. Simple operations like playing music or browsing reddit will cause this. When GPS is on, the issue is exascerbated, but that is to be expected. What's unexpected is how hot it gets from just calling or texting. Two things that are not intensive at all.All in all, I would have given this phone 3 stars had it not been for the lag. That is completely unacceptable, and ruins the experience of having a portable work station.
