Then if you want to use eq you will have to use only negative eq. Or you will have to turn down the gains so that any positive eq doesn't make your headunit / line driver clip. Adding eq can make you clip. For the vast majority of line drivers and headunits any positive eq will make the signal stronger and clip if you didn't have any spare room.
