I am the happy owner of two cats, and was excited to discover a super lightweight natural, non-clay based cat litter... but I must say this product was left wanting in a few areas, as some of the claims seemed exaggerated after utilization.I've been experimenting with different brands/styles of natural (non-clay) clumping cat litters (my boys aren't picky), and this product is the latest (sixth, actually) I've tried out.The reason behind my experimentation with this cat litter was primarily based upon the claim of how lightweight it is. I am a Marine Corps Veteran with a bad back and neck, so lugging around heavy cat litter bags/boxes aggravates my injuries. During my two week trial using this litter, despite my happiness with the product's light weight, I came across a few issues I felt that needed to be addressed. Also, I'm open to discussion, if others have experienced other results!Firstly, the "pebbles" are way too large for conventional litter scoopers, and don't appear to serve any purpose other than weighing down the finer materials that cause the clumping and (I think) odor control.Secondly, while the finer materials that cause clumping and neutralization of urine odor worked quite well, they lasted for FAR less time than what was claimed. In this case, it was only a few days before I noticed that the litter boxes were starting to stink, and full of little more than the pebbly materials.Third, the amount of shaking I have to do to clear the scooper of clean litter vs. the waste (due to the oversized pebbles) causes a lost of the finer particles to scatter, which is frustrating, considering being "dust free is" also a claim I was attracted to.All those issues aside, my purchase was delivered on July 27th, and as of today I've already gone through all five bags, from said bulk purchase, in less than a week and a half... not a financially viable situation for any cat owner, under any circumstance. Given that the company claims one bag can last one cat for a month, I should only have had to use two bags thus far. Five in under two weeks is a bit of an issue.I understand there's the possibility I could have received a bad batch, but I can't imagine all of the bags coming from the same bad batch. That said, if the company sees this, I have a few product suggestions that could help improve the product, and encourage better reviews/customer satisfaction. I know I'm no engineer, but after trying litter after litter, I've noticed several things that make many natural litters more successful than others.- First, I would increase the size of the fine grains to reduce the amount of dust scattered during waste scoopage, was well as increase the amount of said grains to the mix to lengthen the life of one litter bag.- Second, I would drastically reduce the size of the "pebbles", to prevent excessive wastage of both pebbles and the quick clumping particulates during routine litter box cleaning. For an example, I'm sure there is a litter brand called "Smart Cat All Natural Clumping litter", and their pearled grains do an excellent job of encapsulating both solid and wet excrement, however, their litter requires some time for either type to firmly set. This product's fine grain/dust climbs much faster, as claimed, but there just doesn't seem to be enough in each bag.I'm pretty sure that if you increase the size and amount of the finer "clump inducing" materials, and drastically reduced the size of the additional materials in your formula, not only would your customers would be more satisfied with the product, because you would be legitimately proving the product claims.I would love to buy it again, but not if I'm having to go through two bags every four days :/ ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Potentially very helpful! *by D***A on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 10, 2015* Well, I can say that this did change colours to a light pink when my male cat used it, however, soon ALL the litter was light pink.Although pH doesn't always indicate a serious problem it COULD. A pH of 6.0-6.5 is what is considered the "norm." (pH goes to 14.0 and the LOWER the number the HIGHER the ACIDITY). Cats' urine is naturally more acidic (or should be). If it's too acidic though this could possibly be an indication of CALCIUM OXALATE CRYSTALS, however, if too ALKALINE (higher than 7.0) it could be an indicator of MAGNESIUM AMMONIUM PHOSPHATE CRYSTALS.BOTH ARE VERY SERIOUS, POTENTIALLY FATAL CONDITIONS AND NEED TO BE ADDRESSED BY A VETERINARIAN IMMEDIATELY!Unfortunately "Perfect Litter" can only tell you if the cats' urine is abnormally acidic, not abnormally alkaline. You could also test the pH using strips of paper easily ordered or bought from a pharmacy.A cat's diet is very important. Magnesium and Phosphorus have both been indicated as a potential causes of FLUTD and now it's there's concern over the source of Magnesium.Cats are "obligate carnivores" and MUST have meat their food is naturally slightly more alkaline. A lot of vets, our own included, indicate to counter this and to help prevent crystals in male cats, add a touch of unsweetened cranberry juice to their food to balance out the acidity.Since cats can be finicky I "trick" them into taking it.I feed wet food almost exclusively only giving them a touch of dry food for their "treat/ food dispensing toys" to keep them preoccupied.Using a regular "people" plate (cats don't like their whiskers touching anything when they eat so no bowls) I add purified or distilled water to their wet food to make it into a very liquidy broth texture and stir in a touch of unsweetened cranberry juice concentrate. Some days they'll be a bit fussier and I'll give them a bit more of their wet food to take down any tartness from the cranberry juice. They slurp up all of the food flavoured liquid first, only eating the shredded chicken afterwards. They lick the plate completely dry.My female cat recently had a UTI. The litter didn't indicate this as there was no PH change. Only noticed when she was going to her litter boxes every 5 minutes with nothing coming out. She also squatted on the carpet and a plant for the first and only time so I knew there was a problem. Our vet indicated that in this case it wasn't a blockage (thank God), or pH issue but rather a UTI caused by bacteria. Female cats more prone as urethra is shorter making it easier for any sort of bacteria to get inside.This litter can be potentially quite helpful and is extremely lightweight, which I like. It clumps "so-so" but sticks to the litter boxes, even the "non-stick" one as doesn't seem to absorb the urine that well. Has an odd texture, as a previous reviewer said "that of foam and vermiculite." Almost dust free but for whatever reason it causes respiratory issues for me so that concerns me as the cats are much more sensitive, although they have not exhibited any signs of respiratory problems.
