The bag was not water resistant at all from the start. The first time I washed the bag then applied TX Direct Spray, the fabric became slightly water resistant. I figured it could be improved. I washed it more deeply and rinsed it much better, then applied the TX Direct again. The second time the water beading is much better. From pants to jackets and it has performed well for the most part.This product does a fairly good job though it does not fully clean the garment if it is heavily soiled. You may need to rewash it a second time. Overall though, I am satisfied with the performance. If you have gear that stinks, you may want to consider adding a sport wash additive in there to kill the bacteria that causes the odor. This alone won't get rid of those odors.It doesn't leave a film or weird odors in my washing machine (front loader). Rinses clean and then I stick my gear into the dryer on low (check your labels to ensure your gear can go in the dryer) to reactivate the waterproof coating.If you have a lot of outdoor gear that gets a lot of use, regular washing and using the waterproofing treatment will help prolong the useful life of the product.
