I have to say that this applicator in combination with the bait was SUPERBLY effective. This applicator seems like it will be around as long as me. And I have bait for years in case a new family of gophers decides to take up residence in my beds again. Looking back, I should have done this sooner. It gets the poison down into the mole hole. I guess you can put rat poison in it to apply it into a rats nest, but it’s not an anchor. **Q: Is this a risk to cats?** A: If you spill it on the surface it is poison to all animals or children that would eat it. It is designed to be installed in the gopher's tunnel and covered back up with dirt. If you have a pet that digs in the dirt it is possible for them to find it and eat it which would be bad. I use a gopher bait tool that you can punch a hole in the ground the size of a dime leaving the sod undisturbed. The pellets are added to a compartment in the tool that you can release into the gopher's tunnel which you locate with the tool without digging. Cats do not dig usually so it's pretty safe for them. The gopher bait dispenser is sold on Amazon as well and it a great and easy tool to use. **Q: Living in san diego county california i would like the best recommended bait this can be use and not clog up and will ship to ca?** A: The seeds I use for this handy injector is Monterey GO-DIE Gopher Bait, small seeds gopher’s love to eat BAM DONE ! No more gopher !! By shaking the injector you can hear the seeds rattling so you know when you need to refill. **Q: Any idea how to unclog bait? I cant find anything smaller than a wire hanger. Tried soaking, used draino, banging w a mallet and on tire.** A: Most baits, if left in the tool when stored, will absorb moisture from the environment and become sticky.  The solution is to empty any loose bait from the tool and then completely submerge the tool in water and let it soak overnight.  After a lengthy soaking, run water through the tool until it comes out of the end of the probe.  The process may require several attempts depending upon the amount of bait stuck in the tool. If the customer does not have a tub large enough to submerge the tool, a large leaf bag will work.  Set the bag on the ground, insert the tool and then fill the bag with enough water to cover it. I was literally loosing my mind and sleep over this gopher issue we were having in our yard. This is the firs time I've ever had to deal with them. I was trying to play nice, but they are waaaay too smart and I lost my patience every time a huge mound would appear. I tried gassing them, flooding them, then put down some traps, and was completely unsuccessful. A bigger mound kept appearing every time I tried SOMETHING. It was almost like they were were saying, "TRY ME AGAIN LADY!". So, I bought this mechanism with the "Amdro Mole & Gopher Bait". I agree with others that filling the bait was a bit tricky. I wore gloves the entire time, and carefully deposited the bait into the mechanism, and have to maneuver my way onto get the lid bad one, without opening the doorway and allow bait to fall out in the garage. We have pets so I laid down a tarp to capture any fall out (and there were definitely some). The first time I dropped some bait down, and followed the instructions with turning the lever twice. But we saw a mound the following morning, though it was much smaller. Then I just dropped about 5-6 punctures along a "hallway", if you will, along their tunnel and instead of turning the lever twice, I probably disposed a good load down there (this was my last shot!!!) And remained patient... the next morning.. NO MORE MOUND. YOU GUYS WORKED!!!! It was well worth the money. I kinda wanted to meet the sucker eye to eye, but am just overjoyed that it's gone!!!! My peace has been restored!
