Like some lost George Harrison Album, that got mixed up with Proto punk.

This is a hidden gem. A lot of people will and have panned this album, it's long, there are long sections of just noise and the lyncs are difficult to make out. But behind those flaws is another Neo Psychedelic masterpice. Sometimes it sounds like a Lost George Harrison album, sometimes it sounds like the Stooges. It's a great a ride and one I can't wait to go on again. This isn't everyone's cup of tea but in a world of Auto tune, and cookie cutter pop that sounds the same coughtorikelleycough and terrible Rap music an album like this is a breath of fresh air that shows that not only is good music still being made but even with old sounds and song structures, there is still creativity in music.

    Take This Amusement Park Ride!!!

Is Foxygen the greatest band in the world right now? Probably. This double cd is their proper second album and is less conventional, more scattershot and lo fi than their stellar debut but it is stuffed with adventure as songs morph about , riffs burrow their way in and twinkling melodic codas abound. Patience is the key here. Subsequent listens reveal hidden pleasures and sweet sounds.Imagine no pun intended John Lennon as a member of The Rolling Stones. That is the feeling I get here. Heck "Everyone Needs Love " sounds like Lennon fronting a pseudo 70's disco soul pop band. While many influences converge they mainly sound like an updated version of the pop end of spectrum Stones like "Angie" and "Between The Buttons." They also share a perversity with band like the Stones and The Smiths with singer Sam France coming across like some misfit nephew of Mick Jagger. Part One of the album contains a run of soulful rum infused pop songs whereas the Star Power potion as one critic put it sounds like a lost Nilsson rock opera. "The Overture" features the cutest piano motif and "What are we good for" starts off sounding like Lou Reed before jumping into an insanely catchy chorus that kicks ass. Part Two features three stunners "I Don't Have ......." , "Flowers" and Cannibal Holocaust are all addictive winners that weave to and fro. The notorious bad ass third part features some heavy duty psychedelic power riffing and crunch that amount to stuffing but the middle pack of songs are quite engaging culminating in the terrific Stones like riffing on " Freedom II".The two final songs on Part Four help soften the landing. What's next for Foxygen? Will they implode or even lose their mojo overnight? Or is their long predicted masterpiece lurking in the talented fever pitch minds of Jonathan Rado and Sam France?: We can only hope. Stay tuned.

    A bloated mess

*by B***A on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 9, 2014*

I will start by saying that I love Foxygen- We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace & Magic was easily one of my favorite albums for some time and I saw them recently (Boston) and they were awesome. Unfortunately …And Star Power is just a mess. There are fragments of genius here-some of the sounds are really great. You just have to get through a bunch of slop to get the gems. I am sure they thought they were putting together some brilliant concept album, borrowing from VU to create a modern noise rock/punk/psychedelic masterpiece, but it just feels like a bloated mess which could have used quite a bit of editing to make a single great album rather than 2 overwrought albums. The live show was amazing, with the backup singers bringing a great dimension and energy to many of these songs that is just lacking on the album.
