There is two latches that fold out and then close to give a good seal. At first I didn't think the two latches closed snug enough but I was wrong. I did a test where I filled the sink with water and held the case underwater over night and this morning opened it up to check the tissue paper. The tissues were dry as a bone. Now this is with fresh water not salt water. But seeing how the case is made and how it seals I'm sure it would hold up under salt water as well. Especially since most people are not under the ocean for that long. I'm confident that these cases will protect my phone. Also I was able to fit my phone inside even with the Otterbox Defender case on it. Which I was very delighted to see. There isn't anything going to damage my phone. The only thing that I have to complain about is the fingerprint sensor not working through the thick plastic. But other than that the waterproof case worked very well. I didn't get to test it in the ocean while I was on vacation because the water was too cold and the ocean was not clear enough but I'm sure that if had used it the case would have done an excellent job. One thing I would suggest to do is once you put your phone in the waterproof case is to smash all the air out of the case so that once you close it it isn't puffy with air trapped inside.
