I always use the toner from third party except the 1st one which is from the original package. You need to read the reviews about toner before picking it up. The most obvious drawback is that many 3rd party ones do not last as long as they claimed, like only 1500 from 2600 pages. Well, you only pay half or even quarter price. **Q: I am only familiar with b&w laser printers. can this printer also print b&w? are 2 different toner cartridges needed, 1 for color & 1 for b&w ?** A: You are so welcome. I had nice inkjet hp printers that had 2 cartridges for ink. One was color and the other black ink. I liked them and had the ability to copy. I thought they were pretty nice for the small price I paid next to this one. However, I got about 2 to 3 years out of each of them. Still wish I had chosen one of them. (If you are going to do a LOT of printing, you may want to stay with the laser.) **Q: Does it come ready to print (with cartridges/toner)?** A: Yes. With a standard cartridge. I have the black and white AND the color Samsung laser printers. If you want quality & don't compromise on it, then this is THE printer for you.
