The efficiency bulb emits light comparable of a 40 watt bulb even though it uses only 9watts. There are two bulbs you can get for the lamp. The lamp looks better with the light bulb that looks like a candela bulb. The other recommended light bulb works fine, but aesthetically doesn't look as good as the candela looking bulb. Both bulb provide the same wattage of light, 40 watts. I find both to provide plenty of light for reading for 20 minutes before bed. The design of the lamp is edgy/different/eclectic.
