While aging baby-boomers flee from high taxes and incessant crime in California, the diversity of our Nation's prideful Native American emergence via Casinos on Indian Lands, and finally a constant stream of wretched developers, developing for the unending wicked "transplants' who migrate to anywhere they can find their wicked solitude in developments which, deny the existing infrastructure, and want only what they had at home, "Yellowstone" portrays it all. I have to say this series is one of the best written and produced versions of a Television movie, since "Lonesome Dove". While the latter was about the migration of a group of cattlemen into a new and challenging land in the late part of the 1800's, this is about a Cattle Baron in Montana today, who easily could have had a heritage from one of those early founders. He in on attack from every side of a constantly burgeoning barrage of Capitalist developers, and Native Americans, who, enriched by the wealth of Casinos, also believe this is their ancestral land. They want it back, and not without reason. I have never seen such a fascinating montage of conflicting interests presented, with violence, yes, and complete familial dis-functionality. After seeing the first episode, I thought this was the closest film I had seen to the "Godfather", one and two. The next few episodes, filling in the history of Dutton, are little disappointing as they do not live up to the fury of the first, which is a rallying cry for the children to go to war for their Father versus everyone in opposition. Nevertheless, only having seen the first six episodes, Costner is at his "weathered" best as the patriarch, and all the cast are completely wonderful. I would highly recommend this mini-series, for its significant impact, and as a mirror of conflicting interests which now plague this beautiful and diverse landscape. Review: Best new drama on television - First off, pay no attention to the 1 star reviews being written by people who evidently don't know what the phrase "This program is rated MA and contains scenes of strong violence, language and nudity. Viewer discretion is advised" means. Good grief people, if you want a family friendly Western drama, rent The Swiss Family Robinson. Now then. This is the best drama on television IMHO. Unlike some shows like The Walking Dead, they don't make episodes just to fill time. The show is tight, and background information into the characters gets the job done without being overly drawn out. It's basically The Sopranos in Montana, with the Dutton family serving as your favorite good bad guys. Just outstanding and what basic cable could use more of. This season focuses on a ongoing land war between the Duttons, a Native American tribe leader and a real estate developer from California. And once more to the prudes who object to the clearly warned about language, violence and sex: my 70- something year old church going Aunt watches this show with my Uncle and they love it. Some of y'all need to relax... ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A great modern western *by J***S on April 19, 2019* Step by step, Taylor Sheridan is gaining a worldwide reputation as the author and movie director on modern western genre. Obviously he knows the country and its people, the ups and downs of living there and his films are strikingly realistic. This new series Yellowstone allows him to deepen the stories, the characters, the landscapes in an overwhelming saga of the New West vs the Old West. Filmed on location with a wonderful cast headed by Kevin Costner, ageing very well, Yellowstone is certainly one of the best TV shows around. It is thus impossible to understand why Yellowstone has not been issued in France where there is a strong number of western buffs.
