## Questions & Answers

**Q: body weight cap.of this bench**
A: According to the Weider online sales help, the weight limit is 250 pounds.

**Q: compare the Weider Ultimate Body Works verses the Total Gym**
A: There are several different Total Gym models. The lowest price I found on Amazon was $299. The highest priced model I found was at their website at $3800. Outrageous. The $299 model doesn't compare to this $129 Weider machine. I used an older Total Gym which was comparable to the new $299 model. It was junk. The pullup bars started to bend. It was a pain to switch positions. It didn't have any additional resistance bands so the maximum weight you could use was 55% of your body weight, which, in my case was only 102 lbs. resistance (position 8). I have used the Weider 5000 model (which is identical to this one) for over 5 years. I use it 3 to 5 times a week. The maximum resistance for me on the Weider with the 4 bands is 152 lbs. Big difference. I also have added 55 lbs. of weights for certain exercises so I don't baby the thing. I did have a problem with it. The handle straps broke years ago. I replaced them with swingset chains and PVC pipe for the handle. I would suggest replacing them when they start getting a little frayed. You don't want them to break in the middle of an exercise and send you catapulting across the room. Hands down, I strongly recommend this over the Total Gym. Anyone who says otherwise, have them explain to you why?????

**Q: Can you do a leg press on this?**
A: Sure you can. You just won't be able to really do more than about your own weight. If you incline the machine to the last hole, and you added resistence straps at the bottom of the machine all four of them for added 60 pounds, you'll get pretty close to your own weight. Do 30 of them. I have the machine up at the 4th hole up and do 30 leg presses. At my age, I'm not interested in doing a lot of leg pressing. I'ts all about LOW IMPACT for me, with a bit of toning.

If you want a stronger back

*by A***2 on Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2016*

I bought the Weider like many people who didn't want to pay $800 - 900 on a brand name body weight machine. I've had this machine since mid- October and wanted to write a review after using it for several months. I was in a work accident when I was twenty five where I sprained my wrist, tore my labrum, pulled every muscle from neck to my hip on the right side of my body and consequently have four herniated discs through various parts of my spine from C4 - L5.I was at my wits end in dealing with the pain and I was so tired of hearing "just work out" or "you need to lose weight". I get it, believe me I get that if I carried less weight my back wouldn't hurt so much. But what about the horrific nerve pain that radiates to my extremities? How does anyone find the energy to work out to manage pain when you're already trapped in a vicious pain cycle? I'd had enough of the medications. I didn't want to live in a cloud anymore. I had several injections in my lower spine, and those are great, but they are only temporary.I had read and watched dozens of articles and videos about people who used these types of machines to rehab their bodies. I saw that I could do the same movements with this machine without needing physical therapy referrals or paying out of pocket. This machine costs a fraction of those expenses and obviously a very small fraction of any version of the Total Body systems and I regret nothing. This I can keep for the rest of my life, or it's life but even if it has to be replaced the cost is negligible. It works better than I could've imagined. I'm not a doctor, and I don't recommend beginning any sort of physical regimen with out referring to your doctor. I have spent years in physical therapy and for me they always recommend the same exercises, which I do on my Weider. The board stabilizes your back, and yeah the machine can wobble but that means you're not balanced on the board correctly. I built strength pretty quickly, and I didn't see a change in my physique in the first month, but by the second month I looked tighter. An earlier review said that the changes come from the inside out, and they do. Your whole body transforms and you can't really say when or how it happens. I just felt stronger and better. I adapted different exercises and integrated pilates. It isn't as clean a movement as the machines made for pilates, although you'll tone up just the same. And if you're trying to bulk up, this is NOT the machine for you. You can bulk up, but it won't be like p90. This machine is a bodyweight machine with an additional 50lbs. I have strong legs I added 20lbs in the beginning and started bulking up my thighs unintentionally. I stopped using the extra weight and then my thighs slimmed down and toned up.It does take up a lot of space, but if this is something you want in your life, you'll find the space, and you'll make the time to use it. Forget taking this apart to put it under a bed or lean it against the wall, just find a spot that you won't trip over it and leave it there. I keep my in front of the TV so I can kill two tasks at once. There are so many different videos to give you ideas and show you different ways to use this machine. You don't have to spend hours on it either and you end up working harder than you might think your working. I have found myself sweating when I wasn't planning on working that hard. But I feel so good I just add on one more exercise to round out my routine for the day.I love it! I don't have the body type to get down to a size two. I have wide shoulders and wide hips, but using this has toned me faster and in less time than those fifty other gym machines I used before. And unlike my gym memberships from back in the day, I don't waste money. You can't mess up how you do these exercises; your body will tell you when it doesn't feel right and what it won't do.This saved my back and in a roundabout way has improved my self esteem! My posture has improved and I stretch better than when I was on the floor or doing yoga, (I hate yoga). I have more stamina because I have more muscle tone, and I can carry more groceries, about 30lbs now. This shouldn't seem like a big deal, but when your doctor has said you shouldn't be lifting more that 15lbs for the past four years, this is. One gallon of water is a little more than eight pounds. I live on the fourth floor and take the stairs regularly. I have a whole new life now. If you're on the fence because you're not sure the value it can add, you won't regret it once you get used to it. I'm not going to lie and say it was easy, because for me it wasn't. But if you want a change, can't or won't spend hundreds, then this is for you. I've never been happier and my back agrees. As other reviewers might have mentioned you can buy other accessories that fit by total gym. I would recommend getting a ballet bar so you can make your squats deeper.

Extraordinary machine with a very low price!

*by V***N on Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2017*

Solid 5 star purchase! This device arrived almost fully assembled and finishing the installation was extremely easy. I am impressed by how many different exercises you can do with it and how it can be easily folded up and stored in a corner to save up space if that's one of your main concerns. I don't own a Total Gym which makes similar kind of product as this but I did my research on it and know there's one significant advantage the Weider Ultimate Body Works has compared to it's competition (in this case Total Gym XLS priced @ $850) and that is the ability to add resistance bands to increase the total amount of resistance. The bands that come with this machine can easily be replaced with any kind of resistance band you choose. I know a lot of people say you can't build muscle with this which probably comes from those pro athletes who do 1000 lbs squat at the gym but for an average guy or girl this is a very useful tool to build muscle mass and to tone up. (I'm 5'8" and weigh around 165 lbs with very low body fat).I'd like to thank the Weider company for bringing an effective, sturdy and affordable home gym to everyone and I hope this review shows them my appreciation. My request from Weider:Please design another version of this machine that allows you to add more weight on each side of the bench.

    Good value for the price............

*by J***. on Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2016*

I have had the Weider Ultimate Body Works machine for almost a week now. Overall, I like the purchase. I work in physical therapy and we use the Total Gym in several clinics with our patients. This is extremely comparable to Total Gym, but at a fraction of the price. There are pros and cons as with anything you buy, here is a list that I have come up with so far to help others in their decision making:PROS:1. It is mostly assembled right out of the box, taking no more than 15-20 minutes before you can use it once you open it.2. It comes with the squat stand, pull up bar/leg bar, cables for various exercises.3. The sled seems to be made well/durable. Good stitching on the vinyl, sure to last a long time.4. It is easy to transition straight from one exercise to another allowing you to work on strength and cardio at the same time.5. It folds down and can be stored under the bed, in the closet, or wherever else you want to put it. You do have to remove the squat stand/pull up bar to go under most beds. These attachments are held in place by two pins each, easy to remove.6. It rolls really well on the track, and has metal guards welded on the sled to prevent it from jumping off the track.7. The price is far less the the big name competitor.8. At the highest setting it will provide very good resistance for most upper extremity exercise and trunk/core exercises, for me it is not that resistant for squats. HOWEVER, it does have four resistant bands that you can use. you can use any combination of one or all 4. With all four it does provide a fair squat workout. I knew this would be easy for me for squats, I got it for all the other exercises.CONS:1. I was a little disappointed with the shipping/packaging. It was shipped only in the manufactures box, not an Amazon box. The box was torn in a few places, the plastic straps were digging into the box. When I opened it up the foam around the pull up bars had a couple spots that were continuously pressed against something in the box causing a couple indentations in the foam that are permanent. Also, the metal frame the cables attach to have a couple dents in the metal. This is not a functional problem, more a slight cosmetic issue. Not with the hassle of replacing for me, I just wished it looked "brand new" as I bought a new one. Again, these two issues are mildly cosmetic, and do not detract from the function of the unit.2. The cables are permanently attached to the frame. There is no quick release to take them down/off. This is only problematic when you are doing exercises that don't require use of the cables, and the only problem with this design flaw is that the cables clink and clank some when the bounce off of the frame. This too is not a functional problem, merely a slight noise problem.3. Even though it can be adjusted/folded down after use to store away, it is relatively heavy. I am able to fold it away myself, and pretty fast too. However, it is a little big, bulky, and heavy for my wife to fold and unfold it by herself. This is obviously a nonissue-issue for those who have space to leave it set up at all times for use, but thats not an option for us. All she has to do is tell me when she wants to use it, and I can get it set up pretty quick for her.4. As many other have complained about, mine did not have an exercise card that shows the different exercises you can do on this unit. This is not a con for me personally. As I previously mentioned, I work in physical therapy so I am very familiar with all the different exercises you can do oaths machine. Maybe even couple it was not designed to do. For everyone else though, quick Google search should get you all the exercises you need. OR you can spend the $15 to buy a separate card on Amazon.5. For some reason almost all of the nuts, bolts, screws on the unit were finger tight/loose. I had to use my sockets/wrench to tighten almost every one of them. I don't know if this was on purpose or if it slipped past their quality assurance team. But this only took me a few minutes to do with minimal effort. No big deal, unless you don't have any tools at all.Overall, I am satisfied with the purchase. If it would have been packaged better, and did not have the dents in the metal in a couple places nor the permanent indentations in the foam I would have given it 5 stars. Its one of those things were its still perfectly fine to use as is, and will probable last quite some time, but when you buy something brand new you want it to at least look brand new when you first open it. I am a little OCD though and this may not bother most people. If you are on the fence between getting this or the Total Gym and if the price difference is your biggest factor, then don't hesitate in this item. I like Total Gym too, but you are definitely paying for the name. Hope this helps those who are still undecided.
