At first, I cut an inch at a time but my hair was so long that after the first two cuts, I did a bigger cut of about 4 inches. Then I went back to 1 inch cuts. I love how my hair turned out. Honestly I was not impressed when it arrived. Did not think for a second it would work with my thick wavy/curly hair. Boy was I wrong. Was SO easy to use and I’m happier with the results than I have been with many salon cuts. I gave myself lots of layers and cut the exact length I wanted. It took me longer to clean up the cut hair than it did to actually cut it. *Tip for those with curly hair - don’t straighten it like the instructions suggest.
