## Description

Raynox DCR-250 Super Macro Snap-On Lens

Review: affordable and high quality - This snap-on lens has been fantastic for close-up photography. I’ve been using it mainly for minerals and insects, and the level of detail it captures is impressive. It clips on easily and feels secure, so I can switch between normal shooting and macro without hassle. The magnification is strong enough to bring out textures and patterns I’d never notice otherwise, yet it still produces sharp, clear images. It’s also compact and lightweight, which makes it easy to keep in my bag whenever I’m out exploring. For anyone interested in macro work without investing in a dedicated lens, this is a simple, affordable way to get excellent results.
Review: versatility, portability, and performance-to-price ratio. - Why did you pick this product vs others?: When it comes to macro photography, achieving tight, detailed focus without investing in expensive dedicated macro lenses can be a challenge—unless you know where to look. The Raynox DCR-250 offers an elegant and surprisingly powerful solution that bridges affordability with performance, making it a favorite among both hobbyists and professionals looking to expand their creative toolkit. Optical Performance The DCR-250 delivers impressive image quality, transforming even standard telephoto lenses into capable macro setups. With its +8 diopter magnification, it brings subjects into striking focus at incredibly close distances, revealing intricate textures, tiny structures, and vibrant details often invisible to the naked eye. Despite its high magnification, the optical clarity holds strong across the frame, with minimal chromatic aberration and only slight edge softness—characteristics well within acceptable limits at this price point. Build & Compatibility Crafted from high-quality multi-coated optical glass, the Raynox DCR-250 is lightweight yet solid. Its unique snap-on universal adapter (suitable for filter sizes from 52mm to 67mm) allows quick attachment to a wide range of lenses without threading, offering unmatched versatility. It’s particularly useful for photographers who shoot with multiple lens systems or who work in fast-paced environments where gear needs to be modular. Why I Chose This Over Others I chose the Raynox DCR-250 over other macro solutions for three main reasons: versatility, portability, and performance-to-price ratio. Unlike expensive prime macro lenses or bulky extension tubes, the DCR-250 provides instant macro capability without adding significant weight or complexity to my gear bag. It allowed me to achieve near-professional macro results using lenses I already owned—no need for a separate dedicated lens. ## Questions & Answers

**Q: What range/zoom does this give?**
A: Hello; This is an 8 diopter lens. A diopter changes the focus range of your lens. Diopters come in powers from +1 to +5 (that I've seen). They're also stackable: you can put a +4 diopter on top of another +4 diopter, and conveniently that gives you the effect of a +8 diopter. (Quality does suffer when you stack.) The higher the number, the more powerful the diopter. The more powerful the diopter, the closer you can focus. Specifically: divide 100 centimeters by the diopter power. That's the maximum focus distance of the diopter. A +5 diopter focuses at 20 centimeters or less. A +2 diopter focuses at 50 centimeters or less, so an 8 diopter lens would focus around 13 centimeters or less. Hope this helps. Remember, this lens works when you are in full telephoto.

**Q: Would it blow my mind with quality if mounted on the already amazing Canon MP-E 65mm f/2.8 1-5X Macro Lens**
A: Rather than this, if I want to get closer than my macro ring allows I use some extension rings. They allow closer focus but add no extra glass to go through. I have a different brand I purchased for the same amount, so something like this http://www.amazon.com/Movo-Extension-Mirrorless-Compatible-Blackmagic/dp/B00GSCJU3M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1396737657&sr=8-3&keywords=vello+extension+tube

**Q: It work with a lumix 18x = panasonic dmc fz28?**
A: Please check your Panasonic DMC FZ28 manual. I think the lens size for this camera is 43mm. The Raynox DCR 250 has a diameter that is also 43mm. So one would fit right in front of the glass on the lens, even without the need of the adaptor that is supplied. If the camera lens diameter is different in size, it's no problem to fit, using ring adapters that can be easily obtained.

**Q: can i use a step up ring and what size? i don't want to use the spring loaded clip so I just want to attach it with a step up ring. My lens is 49**
A: I have no idea where to find a step up/down ring between 43-49/49-43 mm range. The spring loaded clip attaches to the lens end tightly, and I have never experienced the DCR-250 disconnected by its own.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Wonderful, cheap alternative to a macro lens
*by C***E on September 19, 2010*

Overall: a fantastic alternative for those interested in macro photography that are looking to save some money. My experience: I'm highly interested in macro photography, but didn't want to save up and spend a few thousand dollars on a new lens. This attachment was recommended to me by a user on [...] (a must for photography inspiration!), and I'm very pleased with the product. I see now what the other users meant about the extremely shallow depth of field: it takes a lot of practice, and a lot of patience. If you're not a patient person, then this attachment is probably not for you. It took about 30 shots for me to get a well-focused photo of my brother's eye, up close, because even the SMALLEST movement will switch the focus from the color of the eye to the lid, or contact lens, or the eye lashes. As soon as I got it, however, it was well worth it. I've taken some beautiful photos of bugs and single dandelion seeds, and let me tell you, you haven't seen anything in nature until you shoot a real macro photo (zooming in on the photo is incredible, and my family and friends are shocked at the detail we can't see with our own eyes, that I'm able to capture). Downside: While the sqeeze-into-place attachment is very convenient for the need to take photos quickly, my lens cap (52mm) doesn't fit onto the attachment, so I have to keep the piece in it's original container. This could definitely be improved. I might look into getting a 43mm cap to see if it would fit onto the macro attachment. Some tips if you have the attachment: It works best on telephoto lenses, but if you try it on a wide-angle lens, and zoom out, the image is encircled in black, which can be a fun effect if you want to use it. Always set the focus to manual, and move back and forth with your body to focus.
