It does swivel up and could be used that way but you are better off using bottom loading as pro shooter Jerry miculek demonstrated in a YouTube vid, Google it up. **Q: Will this work with an arch angel kit?** A: It should work nicely with the Archangel kit. You will have to abandon the factory front sight. I have this on my rifle, with a x4 scope. It's proven to be a solid mount. Trust me, NO SKS should be without it. **Q: Will this fit 1957 norinco sks?** A: Yes. You may have to file the ears where they touch the stock a bit so they don’t hit. LONG READ BUT IMPORTANT TIPS *by Q***N on October 29, 2020* Disclaimer 1 - MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE A PIN SECURING YOUR IRON SIGHTS - Otherwise you'll bend that pin and spend almost two hours trying to get it out, as I foolishly did. Disclaimer 2 - If you have a TAPCO Stock like mine, you'll need a dremel. I had to grind about an 1/8 inch - 1/4 inch off of the ears right below the retaining pin holes. I also had to widen those holes with the dremel, but it still seems sturdy. If it isn't sturdy after you open the holes up more, get a washer in there to tighten it up. Tips on removing rear sight and - After you've made sure there's no pin securing the iron sights on (so you don't bend it and make the process much harder), go ahead and get a C clamp. I've seen many tutorials where they press on the spring with a screwdriver and twist it out with another screwdriver, and ones where the compress the spring and pull it out with pliers. WHAT I DID INSTEAD - I took a C clamp, took my TAPCO mag out, and clamped the sight down just enough (not too hard so I didn't damage my stock or receiver in any way) to compress the spring, then took pliers and pulled it right out. Tips for removing receiver cover retaining rod/pin - (There are sections on this part in YouTube tutorials for installing the Magwedge Rail, but I figured I'd include it in the review.) I tried to pull the retaining pin on the retaining rod for 5 minutes or so, and then gave up and used a dremel. The two pins that are provided with the Magwedge Rail are sturdy and both work well. Tips for installation - Just as I used the C clamp for the front sight removal, I used it for the front part of the installation. Clamp it tight enough to compress the spring down where the Madwegde Rails holes line up with the iron sights holes where you take the provided pin and tap it in with a small mallet. I have not shot this yet, but right off the bat it's sturdy, and will most likely hold zero WAY better than the modified receiver cover that was originally on there. It's also much easier to remove and strip the gun than the modified receiver cover. It feels sturdy with both the silver pull pin and the black screw pin. The hardest part is removing the stock iron sights. Installing it was easy besides having to grind off some extra metal, which only took a few minutes with a good dremel. THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND AND ADDITIONAL TIPS 1. This will add more weight to your gun 2. You will not be able to use stripper clips with this specific rail 3. You will lose the easy access from above when the bolt is open, but that's how AKs are, and if you've gone as far as I have with modifying/Bubba-ing your sks, you know that you maybe should have just bought an AK, lol. 4. If you use the provided black retaining rod that requires the provided Allen wrenches, this will require tools to field strip your SKS, which I'm not a fan of. Additional Tips 1. If you bought this with a modified receiver cover that came with a peephole for iron sights and a rail on top, DON'T GO AND BUY A NEW RECEIVER COVER, but instead, take a dremel and grind those boxes off. It'll save you $50 or so. Although it won't have a finished look where the peephole welds were, this Magwedge rail wilo cover it up. 2. Have fun. If you're here, reading this, and thinking about buying it, do it. With the removal of the ol' reliable iron sights, it's only appropriate that you put on an optic that can be as reliable as possible. This means that you don't want a red dot that when its out of battery, you're looking through clear glass and guessing where your shots will land. My scope 2.5-10x40, and has a laser built in for close quarters. The crosshairs in it are built it, but I have the option to illuminate it with red or green. Much love for the SKS community.
