It wont suck them up into the hose but they seem to collect around the bottom of the pump. **Q: I have a wayne pump that is constantly having its weep hole plugged and it stops working until I clear it. does this little giant have the same issue?** A: The weep hole on the Little Giant also gets plugged.I solved the problem by stretching a large size pantyhose over the entire pump, made openings for the cord and hose connection and used hot melt glue to keep them from fraying.The stocking blocks out all of the small stuff since it acts like a filter,but it'll only last for one season.I've been doing this for several years and it works great.In fact I need to do it tomorrow for this coming off season.I also have a leaf net over the top of the winter cover and the cover pump is between the winter cover and the leaf net. **Q: Can it be used in Norway (230v)?** A: Check with mfr, they also make a 230V 50HZ CE version **Q: DO you think could be used as an auxiliary bilge pump on an 18 foot boat sitting in a wet slip in case the 12volt system pump stops working?** A: That is a great idea. I got 4 years out of my last one so I just bought the same model again. They come with 3 year warranty I think. Worked very well till the end to dewater my in ground pool cover in Florida. I really liked the sensitivity and design of the float switch and its magnetic contacts. It was easy to clear leaves and pine needles from the impeller area. There was some minor fiberglass flaking near the end but nothing structural. Only reason I had to replace it was a melted capacitor which is proprietary and the average person can't obtain one.
