Yes it is a little fussy if you don't put enough meat in the cavities to make the top rounded, but after the first fill I was able to get more consistent meatballs. I hate using a meatball scooper because it hurts my hand a lot! But no issues with this. I make a TON of meatballs during the holidays and these are definitely more consistently sized than the ones I make, and overall should be a time savings over making each one by hand. Either way the consistency is worth it for me. Yes the meatballs do get a little off-round when they cook (mine had a full cup of chopped green onions in the recipe which I'm sure didn't help). I did spray it before filling the first time but not after. I was surprised at how nicely the meat balls came out, at first I was afraid if I hit it too hard, they wouldn't come out, but you can really give them a whack and they stay round, no worries there.If you look at the second picture, you can see some are not consistent, those were literally my first try. It is so tedious and I do not like touching meat, so the less I have to, the better. This gadget has saved my life and now I make meatballs once a week! ### ⭐⭐⭐ If you hate touching meat, this might be for you? *by C***N on Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2020* I got this to help more rapidly process a large amount of ground bison we recently bought. I had hoped it would make the process faster but it really didn't. If you don't mind hand-rolling meatballs (which is really easy, to be honest) it's so fast to just grab a pinch of meat, roughly shape a ball, then roll for a few seconds to smooth it out. It takes maybe 5-10 seconds per ball.This thing isn't necessarily slower but it's definitely not faster either. You have to carefully pack each cup with just the right amount of meat then add the top shaper piece and lid and press HARD to squeeze out the excess. And there will be excess, because if you don't you'll have voids or lumpy meatballs. Then you have to remove the two top pieces and clean the squeeze-out from them, then coax the meatballs out of the bottom. Cooking spray helps, but then you have to spray in between every batch which adds an extra step.If I was making meatballs for a party or something and wanted them perfectly shaped, this is a good tool for that.
