Adam mentions GNU radio, but you can also get the rtl-sdr suite of utilities that are very useful. Several packages apps for aircraft tracking (dump1090), ham radio, digital voice trunking, NOAA weather satellite decoding, and other uses are also available. I have mine running the PiAware software on a Raspberry Pi and feeding the FlightAware site. Can I use this one as airplane radar?** A: The main difference is the tuner IC used in the design (another big difference is the improved, telescopic antenna). You will need a $5 MCX to SO-239 or some other adapter cable to connect it to a larger antenna.
