Dry the case with a soft clean cloth whilst the surface is still wet, then leave for 2 – 3 hours before applying Slate Blacking. NB. *0000* Wire Wool can be used with White Spirit for cleaning very badly marked cases. Directions for use…..Shake the bottle before use, then apply Slate Blacking with a clean lint free cloth. Apply evenly over the surface but do not rub in. Small bubbles that may appear in the process will even themselves out. Two coats are usual, but very grey or white areas may need more. Should any of the Slate Backing get into inlay, it should be removed with a damp cloth before it dries. When the slate case is dry, it can be buffed to a high shine with a soft duster. But in answer to your question, it WILL cover any stains or marks on your slate (i've used it on my slate hearth) Just to clear, it's not a cleaner, it is more like a very black watery paint. It has left my hearth very black, quite shinny, not at all like the dull mat slate look. And so far, is quite scratch resistant. I used about 1/3 of a bottle to cover my hearth, and i used a new cleaning sponge to apply it. Two coats gave me a good finished look. I would recommend it if you're looking to smarten up your hearth. **Q: How much do you need for slate flooring?** A: A lot!!! I'm not sure this would be suitable for a floor ?? To me it goes on more like an ink. WD40 worked far better on our hearth, more natural looking. I guess it depends on what you want to achieve though. **Q: Would this be suitable for blackening a sink which is carved from slate? It has faded to grey with age and limescale.** A: Might be... it is like a very runny black paint. It would be worth getting a jar and perhaps trying it on a hidden bit first perhaps. It also dries quite quick. I did my hearth last year, it is still shiny black. It was with stood normal log burner duties, but will it survive in a sink? But then what do you have to loose? **Q: My black slate tile floor is a bit knackered. do you think this is a good idea to use ? if i deep clean with a hg cleaner, then apply this then seal?** A: All I did was clean the clock with got soapy water then cleaned with white spirit until all the grime had gone then with a soft cloth gently rubbed two or three coats of blacking. No need to seal.
