DAYS GONE: Special Edition
Days Gone is a big open world game, it’s a post-apocalyptic zombie/infected land, with humans and sub-humans fighting each other for survival, resource and power, yes you’ll probably notice some similarities to other games, but Days Gone really does have its own identity and originality and that’s mainly because of the Freakers in their hordes; just the sheer size of a horde at first sight leaves your jaw open and the sound they make in their numbers is eerie and scary, they range in numbers, but if you encounter a large swarm of them then you better be fully equipped or have your bike near by for a quick getaway, because if not, they will consume you. Confronting the Freakers in their hordes is an exhilarating experience because they just don’t stop coming at you, and to break them all down you need powerful weapons and a diverse arsenal to do it quickly enough. In between main story missions, for long periods of gameplay you end up having to help out just about everyone in order to gain XP and Camp Credits. There are many different narratives to engage in, and if you mix them up a bit it doesn’t feel repetitive. To get around you travel across country on your trusty motorbike, which you’ll frequently have to maintain and keep the gas tank toped up with fuel. Out on the road there are many foes and everything indeed wants to kill you; from Freakers to the Rippers to rabid wolves and big bears, even some crows will have a go at you. The weather conditions and landscapes in Days Gone are just stunning, the level of detail makes the world you’re in very believable, the graphics are the best I’ve seen in a game and the sound effects are as equally impressive. You need to give this game a good twenty to thirty hours for it to start evening itself out; from a story mission to a side mission to just scavenging resources for crafting takes time and does give the feel that you’re really out there on your own living it in real time. Overall Days Gone is what I expected it to be; for my first session I played for seven hours straight and after I couldn’t wait to get back into it again. I think the developers at Bend Studio have created a great game that they are right to be excited about and proud of. This Special Edition at the time of release is the best value to buy, because you get an exclusive to this edition steelbook, essential early skill unlock, exclusive bike skins, an exclusive dynamic theme, an art book and a CD of the soundtrack beautifully composed by Nathan Whitehead. Days Gone is an Epic ride, the critics in my opinion have got it wrong, the game is stunning and loads of fun, I'm absolutely loving it, and now that the bugs are being fixed I give it a 10/10... It's an insult to score this game anything less than a 9. There are many hours of gameplay and even some free DLC to come in June. So get on your bike & ride and kill, to uncover the truth in Days Gone.

Days Gone a rip roaring adventure
Brilliant game but I can only give 4 stars as the pre-order bonuses were not available to download. Very annoying but doesn’t spoil the game.

Sony's First Exclusive That Isn't A Must Own
In my own worthless opinion this is Sony's first Exclusive title that isn't a must have, don't confuse that with me not liking it, I do, but this game, which I was looking forward to, is not the same kind of experience as Horizon Zero Dawn, Marvel's Spider-Man, God Of War or Uncharted 4. I Pre-Ordered this edition for £64.99 which I think is a fair price, you get an exclusive Steel-Book, full-game and mini-art book and a Day's Gone Theme for your PlayStation Home Screen. You are Deacon St John, a biker gang member surviving in the remnants of a crippled civilisation two years after a "Freaker" outbreak destroyed humanity. It is interesting (stupid) that in just two short years the "Rippers" have developed from normal rational humans to full blown self-harming apocalyptic religious fanatics/cult. The game itself is good, it has cherry picked multiple features from other better titles such as long-distance Enemy tagging (Far-Cry) Detective-Mode (High-lighting your surroundings vis-a-vis Horizon Zero Dawn) Basic Stealth Takedowns (Far-Cry, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, The Evil Within 1&2) and RPG Skill Levelling. The sandbox you find yourself in is Oregon and its very detailed and beautiful, lush woodland and sparsely populated desert towns are peppered around the map and I genuinely like exploring them. The hordes of Freakers and Deacons Motorcycle are what sets Days Gone apart from its superior peers, there are options to customise your bikes appearance and modify its performance and I found the moments when you accidently stumble across hordes of Freakers traversing the map to be the most thrilling and rewarding bit's of the game. I also like clearing the Freakers nests as hurling a Molotov cocktail into the flammable structure creates moments of tension before the inhabitants come flooding out engulfed in flames. Someone said that imitation is the highest form of flattery and in Days Gone case its true, the development team were obviously highly influenced by The Last Of Us, but that game was released at the end of the PS3'S lifespan, Days Gone was in development for 7 years and after all that time I expected something more.

don't buy this
Has to be the poorest quality game I've ever bought. so full of glitches I've lost count, the AI is banal, the empathy for deacon fails totally, the lip sync is laughable, game play totally boring, save your money and just don't buy it

Try for yourself
I pre-ordered Days Gone about a week before the reviews came out and when they did I was a little disheartened to say the least. Upon playing it, I realised my woes were for nought. The game is nothing short of brilliant. I saw one review that labelled it a Jack of all trades, master of none. To an extent, I agree. The game pulls in every thing that worked for every other game of it's genre and puts it to work for itself. It doesn't bring anything revolutionary, but then again, does it have to? This game is purely a character study. It doesn't need game changing gunplay or mind blowing innovation, it can have the barest game mechanics of this gen and still be a solid game due to the characters. But it treated us. It gave us solid characters and story and the best of what we've had before in terms of gameplay. The character of Deacon St John is one of the best protagonist I've had the privilege of playing. While other games strive to give us the coolest looking, the edgiest or the biggest characters, they give us a skinny biker who's a bit of a jerk but also the biggest sweetheart ever. He's not perfect. He's just a guy trying to do the right thing. He's a post-apocalyptic Superman. He doesn't want to be a leader but he knows what the right thing is. This sense of realism of the character give us someone to align with, someone we can relate to. Anyone who's seen Sons Of Anarchy, think Jax Teller. He's such an amazing character that I just want to see more of. Even the most redundant characters get a backstory and some decent screen time which is a rarity. The environment is beautiful and really captures that Oregon feel. The graphics are great and really immersive at times. The freakers AI can be a bit ignorant but when those hordes come running at you I get so giddy and happy that something like that is in a game. I have a base PS4 and there are no bugs for me apart from a few unloaded textures and audio overlaps. Loading screens take a while to be honest though. The story is really well done and enticing in every part. My only advice is do all the tasks for the camp because it will pay off. Also, the secret ending is one of the best cliffhangers for a game. Need a sequel after that. All in all, it's a really well made game from people who truly care for it. I don't understand the hate from critics so I implore that you try this game for yourself. Definitely worth it. If not for me, do it for Boozers puppy.

Mixed bag
At first i wasn’t sure now i cant stop playing. Wish the story was a bit better though hopefully it gets good Minus 3 stars - crap frame rate and a lot of bugs/gameplay a bit unfinished - missing soundtracks from cd and digitally compared to it I recommend getting on sale and not this edition, its a complete waste of money

Game of the year!!!
This game for me has been the suprise package of the year. Ive seen this getting mixed reviews online etc this is not a game you can review or appriciate 10 hours in its a grower it gets better the longer you play it. For me it has everything. Good charecters you can get invested in and attached to a good story with decent graphics and a good combat system. The guns feel decent and the mele combats on point and theres a nice big open world to exsplore. One of my favourite things about this game is the end game content where you take on the big hordes I thought this was a briliant feature and I had loads of fun taking them down. There are a few minor issues/tweaks that could be improved most noticebly the frame rate drops thst can occur at times. But for a small games company theyve done a very good job with this game. Thers a good 60 hours of gameplay even more if your a completionist. This for me is definatly a contender for game of the year sony once again as scored a big home run with yet another one of its exslusive titles. Realy hoping this game gets a sequel. 10/10 for me.
