Nicely Done! Review: Clear and Useful Information - My property was burned to the ground in The Station Fire (8/09 - Angeles Forest). My well just needed to be re-wired, so I didn't bother with the information on wells. The information on septic systems was very good. Since I am a picture person, I would have liked some diagrams, but I could figure out what was desribed. I believe it does a good job of describing septic systems for most of the country. My problem is the environmentalists in California have created new codes and regulations that make building, or rebuilding, impossible. I was informed that my soil "perk test" is too good! Since it drains so well it might be possible for effluent to get into the water table before it is completely safe. Might is the key word. I would like to rebuild a one bedroom, 500 sq ft cabin and Los Angeles County informed me I need a computerized system that will cost between $25,000 and $50,000 - the same type of system used in areas with poor drainage. The author, Mr. Woodson, might like to tackle some of the newer problems home builders might be facing around the country.

Clear and Useful Information
My property was burned to the ground in The Station Fire (8/09 - Angeles Forest). My well just needed to be re-wired, so I didn't bother with the information on wells. Great Content, Missed Opportunities
The information in here is great and is enough to get the job done. But the lack of abundant diagrams is a huge missed opportunity to help aid in teaching and explaining. Would have like to purchase different books, even if they didn't include both topics. Worth the money but a little bit of a let down.

Not helpful
I was hoping for a precursory understanding of septic systems, which upon skimming the book I absolutely did not get. This book has more copy/pasting then I have EVER seen in a book. Literally entire sections are copied from one chapter to the next (I kept on thinking "wait, i've read this before.") There was very little tangible information for people trying to get a grasp of septic systems and how to design one for yourself. It is geared only to contractors/professionals, and even then I imagine for them it would be only marginally helpful. One star.

No visuals -drawings
Lacking enough technical drawings , first is one page 92. ( re-published pump manufacturers drawings- no originals) Publisher clearly value engineered the heck out of this book. For those who need good visuals to quickly understand something, this book challenging , being almost all text and much of it simply repeating the same information from one chapter to the next.

Not for the novice
It's very interesting after you define all the terminology but it is for plumbers and contractors, not someone who is interested in having a home built. TMI TOO MUCH INFO.
