One secret could bring down the government when the President's memorable affair becomes a nightmare he longs to forget in this page-turner from the world's #1 bestselling author. Sally Grissom is a top Secret Service agent in charge of the Presidential Protection team. She knows that something is amiss when she's summoned to a private meeting with the President and his Chief of Staff without any witnesses. But she couldn't have predicted that she'd be forced to take on an investigation surrounding the mysterious disappearance of the First Lady—with strict orders to keep it a secret. The First Lady's absence comes in the wake of the scandalous, public revelation of the president's affair, so at first it seems as though she is simply cutting off all contact as she recuperates at a horse farm in Virginia. What begins as an innocent respite quickly turns into a twisted case when the White House receives a ransom note along with the First Lady's finger. The First Lady will keep you up reading all night long ... Review: Rather unusual - Good to see JP has kept up his skills with this saga. Deception uber alas. Somewhat confusing but then that’s part of his skill. Keeping on looking for more wonderful tales from the author of the century. Review: another engaging thriller - If somewhat predictable, there are enough twists to keep you engaged. Loved the female characters — they had depth and interesting back stories. A satisfying summer read.

Action Packed
After reading The President is Missing and The President's Daughter... I had to read The First Lady! It did not disappoint! Action, thriller, many surprise twists and turns... and an unexpected ending. Highly recommend reading!

Great ride!
I once saw James Patterson’s plot lines described as roller coasters and that’s pretty apt. This one starts out simple, but definitely throws you for a loop or two. Best of all, he throws in some wonderful new female characters- the First Lady, the girlfriend, the assassin and the Secret Service Special Agent in Charge of the Presidential Security Detail. All strong. All smart. All underestimated by the men in their lives. The downside of the book? It gives you a perfect picture of Washington, DC. It’s a disappointing place, filled with selfishness and disillusionment. I’ve never experienced another place like it. On a funny note, more than one character in the novel described civilization as anywhere you can find running water and functioning toilets. Having experienced the lack of these amenities more often than I can say, I felt like those characters were kindred spirits.

Disappointed
I eagerly bought this book thinking it was part of what I decided was one of Mr. Patterson's " President" books. The book reached a crescendo with all the subterfuge but died a boring( at least for me) death. The details of the conspiratorial actions from governmental influences were spectacular and the plot is laced with a little suspense but in whole I felt the book lacked depth.

Top Review has said it best
I really cannot add more that what has already been said. The story moves along quickly. I was pleased to find very little inappropriate language used. What little there was seemed to fit the setting of the story at the time. There are a few plot twists that kept me guessing. You might have it all figured out, but it kept me wanting to turn the page. I made the mistake of picking it up one night when i could not sleep and found myself still awake at 4am In the beginning of the story the President is caught with his pants down... seems to be a theme these days :( And while he scrambles to save his upcoming election his scorned wife, who reads a bit like Jackie O., has other plans. That is until.... well no spoilers. Get the book you will not regret it.

Unputdownable: My 24-Hour Journey with 'The First Lady'
As a long-standing fan of James Patterson's work, my expectations for "The First Lady" were high, and I am thrilled to report that they were not only met but exceeded. While not connected to his collaborations with Bill Clinton, this standalone novel echoes the best elements of Patterson's narrative style – a gripping plot, realistically crafted characters, and a pace that makes it nearly impossible to put down. The story pulls you into a vortex of suspense and intrigue from the beginning. The disappearance of the First Lady creates a backdrop filled with political drama and deep-seated secrets, making every page a revelation. Patterson’s mastery in weaving a complex plot is evident as he flawlessly balances the elements of suspense and drama. The characters in "The First Lady" are a standout feature. Their realistic portrayal adds depth to the narrative, making their decisions and the resulting consequences feel authentic and impactful. It is a testament to Patterson's skill in character development that the reader becomes so invested in their fates. The pacing of the book is another of its strengths. It is paced so well that I found myself absorbed in its world, finishing the book in under 24 hours – a true testament to its captivating nature. Patterson ensures each chapter adds to the suspense, making it a true page-turner. This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a well-crafted political thriller. Whether you are a Patterson aficionado or new to his work, this book is a compelling journey into political power's intricate and often shadowy corridors. Its gripping narrative and realistic portrayal of characters are sure to keep you engaged until the end. Highly recommended!
