Versatile and WORKS GREAT with Cuisinart Electric Fondue Pot
This lightweight, non-stick, double boiler is super handy. It's Nordic Ware for sure...but it's worth noting, up front, it's their consumer quality, not their commercial quality. For us and our use we are thrilled with the function. We purchased two of these as our cheese and our chocolate bowls to use with our Cuisinart Electric Fondue Pot. With these we can serve multiple courses in our fondue pot without having to stop to clean the pot! We also use these over pots (the rim allows for various pot diameters) for melting chocolate or sugars when we're making candy or baking. The non-stick coating has worked great for us. Based on the weight and the price I'm not expecting these to a last for decades, but if I get 3-6 years out of them I'll be thrilled. For baking it's good and for fondue it's amazing! Highly recommend the Nordic Ware Double Boiler.

Awesome if you're low on kitchen space
First I should say that I'm no chef. This review comes from an average kitchen user. Earlier in this past holiday season I wanted to make some almond bark covered pretzels but we don't have a double boiler. So I made my own with a metal bowl and a pot. It worked just fine but the bowl kept moving around on me and when it came to cleaning with chocolate was crusted on the bowl pretty bad. I then thought to myself, "It would be nice to have a true double boiler for times like these. But I have SO little cabinet space that I'd hate to have to store something like that year round when I would only use it a few times a year. Let's check amazon for a better solution." Sure enough, I find this! This bowl is non-stick coated and has ridges on the side to keep it from sliding around on the pot. Plus it's able to slide in with the mixing bowls for storage! This covers my needs perfectly for those few time a year I need to double boil. I've only used it once so far but it heated better than my other metal bowl, and cleaned up nicely. The only caveat might be that the bowl has a round bottom which doesn't allow you to set it down outside of the pot. But I'm assuming that's for more efficient heating, so a simple solution is to just keep it in the pot! Highly recommended.

more than double the benefit
For years, I used make-shift pots and pans to double-boil thinking that it isn't worth investing in yet another item that isn't used often but takes up precious kitchen space. My method was clumsy and the process was more like steaming that double-boiling. Since I had different quantities to cook, it was tough to find a double boiler that would fit my different needs and I didn't want to buy several double-boilers. Then I came across this nice little item and thought that for this price, I couldn't go wrong. Well, I was right for once. This insert is so practical and beyond versatile! It holds a variety of things in varying volumes while sitting sturdily in a host of pots. The dome shape allows you to whip up even a small amount of sauce without the ingredients being "lost" as a thin layer on the bottom of a big pot. It cuts down the double-boiling process by more than two-fold. The nice little measurement guidelines help ensure that you are using the right quantity. It is non-stick and cleans without having to scrub. Plus, it hardly takes up any space since it nests nicely in existing pots for storage. I no longer take a long time and make a mess out of double-boiling. Hollandaise sauces, souffles and fondues are now a cinch to make. I like this so much that I'm picking another one up for a friend. Do your recipes a favor and get this too. You'll earn praises for your culinary speed.

Great for infusing oils/butter
I use this to make flavored butter and oil. Very nice and neat compared to floating a pot in a larger pot, which is what I used to do. Just prep my herbs in the oven, put them in this double boiler with butter or oil and let it simmer a few hours. Great results.

Those Nordic’s know what they're doing.
I’m a fan of Viking anything, but not the football team never them, so I bought this not because I really needed a Double Boiler but because it has Nordic in the title, well I have to admit I’ve been interested in science of Double Boiling. Now that I know what a double boiler is and the wizardry that is this Double Boiler I will never use anything but his Double Boiler to boil thing that require it boiled doubly. The first thing I did was melt some chocolate and it worked great; I used the, now melted, chocolate on some cheese cake stuffed strawberries. Then I made some brownies and melted white chocolate to get that marbled look. I also melted peanut butter chips for the same brownies. It worked so well I melted some Snickers bars and used the Snicker liquid mixed with melted marshmallows as a cake filling and the Nordic works great in many different pots. After the onset of the Diabetus I took to Google to find other delicious thing I could Double Boil. I made hollandaise sauce and a hollandaise like sauce for chicken. It cleans well, is easy to store due to its smallness and could be used as a helmet.

Love it. Made Christmas buckeyes so much easier to make!
I just love this. I've always just used the microwave or a pan and it was always hard to keep the chocolate melted at the right consistency for dipping. This thing is brilliant. It fits on any of my smaller pots and cleans up like a dream. I've never used a double boiler so I wasn't sure how exactly to do it but figured it out easy enough. I chose my pot and put enough water in it that it would cover a portion of the bottom of this once placed on top. Then I brought the water to a slow boil and turned the burner down to the lowest setting. Put this on top, throw in the chocolate (and some wax since that was the recipe), let it melt a bit, stir, melt, stir, etc until it was all smooth. I was making buckeyes and it stayed melted without having to turn the burner back up during the whole time I was dipping. I just kept my spoon nearby to stir it up once in a while to keep the wax & chocolate from separating at all. There was still quite a bit of chocolate left over when I got done so I made up some chocolate covered ritz peanut butter sandwiches with the remaining chocolate (no way I was going to waste it!! It's chocolate for goodness sake!) Then, as a bonus, I used the spoon to stir my coffee after I was done and had a nice mocha! LOL Okay, so that has nothing to do with the pot but it was too good to not mention. :) I highly recommend getting this little baby even if you only use it once a year for Christmas cookies! It definitely saved time cleaning chocolate out of pans and bowls and was easy to use.

Ok, but not great.
I have had this double boiler for awhile now, and have used it to make many savoury sauces. However, today I decided to make some tapioca pudding, which I find best done in a double boiler, to prevent scorching. The good news is that it worked beautifully. The bad news is that my pudding tastes like a savoury sauce. Perhaps spaghetti sauce? I can't quite put my finger on it. This is always washed in the dishwasher on a heavy cycle, and is always cleaned perfectly. I cannot believe that the non-stick coating would absorb flavours, but it apparently has. So I guess my advice would be to purchase two if you intend to use this for sweet things and sauces.

The Perfect Scrambled Eggs
Why does no one else make non-stick double boilers?! Thank god this one's terrific, but I am buying an extra should Nordic Ware ever lose their minds and discontinue these. It neither slips nor wobbles and it's dead cheap. Eggs are pure protein; they stick to everything and you will spend hours trying to scrape the little bits away. - Get out the plates and silverware so you don't have to bother with it later. Make coffee. - Drink coffee and get out everything you need. - Put a saucepan on the heat with 2 inches of water or so and bring to a simmer. Water should not touch base of boiler. What you are cooking with is the gentle heat of the steam on the boiler. Genius. - Turn the heat as low as possible and plot the double boiler into your saucepan, maybe lube up the interior with a little butter. Everything is better with butter and it's just a little insurance and flavor to boot. - Whisk up two or three eggs per audience member with a tiny squidge of cream or milk. (Do not salt. Salt after cooking. It does funky things with the water/protein emulsions. Oh, don't get me started...) - Tip eggs into double boiler and confirm the heat is as low as it will go. - Do some damn thing for the next 20 minutes, wafting back into the kitchen every so often to give the eggs a stir with a wooden spoon or other nonstick implement. Go for "moist soft curds". -When the eggs are almost done (yes. right. "moist curds"), make and butter toast ("Toast!", I said. Not "tepid pale bread"!) - If you are a real superhero, you've warmed the plates with a bit of hot water and a quick dry and will serve the lot with salt and pepper (bother after cooking). If you are a god, you'll bring this up to your wife's room with some juice, the coffee, and the paper. You have no idea what kind of points you can score from this kind of genius. Well done and thanks.

Great Double-Boiler
This thing fits into almost every pot I own, and is super easy to use and clean. It gets quite hot, so if you need to touch it to keep it in place while you're stirring, make sure you're doing so with a thick towel, or oven mitts. Otherwise, a great buy!

Great but could do with a lip.
Great for candle making. The only issue is there is no lip to pour whatever you’re double boiling. I pour into a smaller container that has a lip.
