4631D Parabolic Front Diffusion Cover (White)

Works as it should. Easy to use.

A great option for any 7 foot parabolic umbrella. I bought one for each of mine Westcott 7 foot umbrellas (one of which is silver and the other white). You will lose perhaps a stop of light, but the cover turns your umbrella into a massive soft box. The opening in the center of the diffusion cover is big enough to allow my Alien Bees to fit through. Here's a tip for mounting the cover - don't try to put it onto an opened and mounted umbrella (your arms won't be long enough to reach both sides). Instead, take a closed umbrella and insert it through the diffusion cover opening with the tip of the umbrella pointed toward the floor. When the umbrella is completely past the opening, reach in with your other hand and open the umbrella slowly. The edges of the umbrella will apply even pressure to the elastic band on all sixteen sides as it opens and when locked open, the diffusion cover will be taut all around.

Stretches over umbrella very easily - was surprised. It creates a 7-foot softbox. But when you fire your strobe there will be a hotspot where the strobe fires though. Comes out hot in the center. Just though maybe I could use my long-throw reflectors on my White Lightnings, and maybe that would get rid of the hotspot. Botton line is that it's brilliant to have this cover, because without it, you still get harshness reflecting off the inside of umbrella. With it, everything is softer. One thing I got using it was much more magenta in my portraits. It tends to warm everything up for some reason.

This is a really BIG umbrella. When you want to cover a large area, this will do it. This 7 foot baby is a monster and a pain to use, as you have to anchor it to a heavy stand and then angle a strobe into it, but when you want to cover a large area with light, this is the one you want. I also own the white version of the same umbrella. Both are very well made.

i gave this a 5 star rating, because it meets my expectations and accomplishes what it is intended to do. There is nothing i dislike about this diffuser, it is easy to setup and fits my monolight perfectly. I definitely would reccommend this as a light control modifier to my photographer friends.

I've had the Westcott 7' white reflective umbrella for awhile and while I liked it, I only used it occasionally. But with the white front diffusion fabric on, this umbrella becomes a different animal and has become my favorite modifier. The light comes out of the umbrella like a 7' round softbox and bathes anything in it's path with soft light. It's pretty amazing...if you have or are going to have one of the Westcott 7' reflective umbrellas, you might want one of these too.

It's huge so, that is both a plus and a negative. I frequently shoot portraits on the beach and it is a sail in the smallest breeze and it doesn't have anyway to secure it to the umbrella to it gets pulled right off. If you're indoors is a sweet tool to add a different look quickly to your images, especially if you don't have a lot of time for set up.
