A spiritual story about the far-reaching effects of private actions. Mole has always led a simple life, but lately he feels something is missing. When he first hears someone playing a violin, Mole realizes that he longs to make beautiful music, too. Through practice and patience, Mole learns to play. And even though he plays alone, in the privacy of his underground home, his music has an effect on others that is more magical than Mole will ever know. Review: A sweet story to share - This is such a sweet book! I remember finding it when I first started teaching and then remembered it when my toddler got into pretending to play the violin. He loves it too and at 22 months it’s already one of his favorites! Review: Simple and full of depth... - We have owned this book for a few weeks now, and every time I read it to the children, it gets richer. The words tell a simple story, and the illustrations take those words and make a visual feast or little ones with layers and layers of meaning. (The only other book I have found does this at the same level is A Tree in a Forest by Jan Thornhill.) My children love the book (I think my boys, ages 2 and 7, the most), and my 7-year old looks and looks at the illustrations. There are so many living ideas to discuss - perseverance, beauty, life, joy, peace... This is a wonderful, poignant book for those willing to really look.

Sweet and good story.
The sweetest story for encouraging someone to quietly and happily do their own thing and trust there is great good that comes from it, even when one is not aware. Beautiful art.

can inspire others and bring them peace and joy when we aren't even paying attention
Mole Music is one of the books featured in the Reading Rainbow program about the tragic events that took place in New York on 911. It is a book of hope in the realization that we are not alone and that our talents, no matter how we might diminish their value, can inspire others and bring them peace and joy when we aren't even paying attention. My students love reading this book. It has an AR level and associated quiz, but more importantly it helps my students, most of whom are from depressed economic homes, understand their unique talents and how valuable they are in society.

The best children's book ever written
I love this book, it nearly disintegrated I read it so much to my kids. Get it as gifts for other little ones. Can't say enough good things. Concise and beautiful.

My son loves this book!
My son loves this book. Mole Music is a mellow story with a few positive undertones. The basic messages are about the importance of practice and not giving up, and the power of music. There is also a bit of an indication that we don't always understand the impact that we have on the world around us.

Love this story
Love this story. It's so sweet and a good lesson for children. I'm a music teacher and I read this to my younger students. It's about a mole who is inspired to take up the violin. He's not very good at first, but he keeps practicing over the years and he gets better. He's a humble mole, living a simple lifestyle underground, and while his passion for music and artistry grow, little does he know the enjoyment he brings to those passing above him on the ground.

a beautiful story
I brought this for my Godson who was considering giving up the Violin. I thought it a beautiful story, and hope he might come back to his playing at a later date. Great for any child who plays (any) instruments.
