I'm trying to connect two 6"x24" pvc pipes together. Would this coupling work for the task?

This is IPS (iron pipe size). Pipe 6" or more may be IPS or PIP (plastic irrigation pipe). It should have the PIP or IPS printed on the pipe. The seller should have put on the description that this is IPS but all I could find was that it is 6.625 id.

Does this "429" coupler have an internal stop midway, or no internal stop to allow sliding 100% onto one pipe then back over joint?

Hello, yes this "429" coupler does in fact have an internal stop midway. You wouldn't be able to slide it 100% onto a pipe. Hope this helps.

This item says "1 1/2 in x 3/4 in" is this a reducing coupling or a straight piece of pipe?

This would be a reducer. If you just want a 1 1/2" coupler to join two same size pvc pipes choose the size 1 1/2" without a second dimension - picture is generic....
