Vortex Crossfire HD 12x50 Binoculars

Very happy with this pair of Vortex Crossfire 12x50. Used them at the Cape Hatteras seashore and they were great for long distance clarity, and short distance bird watching. It took practice learning how to hold the pair steady, but no real issues. The tripod adapter, well haven't figured out how to use it yet. No opinion yet about the pair's waterproof or fog proof ability yet. Will update.

Great binoculars. First good pair I've owned, but I dont see how they could be better for viewing at the distance they do, which is about as far as I'd want without having a tripod or something. Materials seem good quality. Image is crystal. The case and sling and protectors are good. I do caution those with close-set eyes, though. Mine are nearly that, having about the exact width of one of my eyes between the two, and I just barely get the image right when the biboculars are pushed together as far as they go. If my eyes were aby closer together, they probably woyldnt ve the roggt set for me. So caution if you have close-set eyes. All thibgs considered they seem top value for the price.

These binoculars replace a set of 80's vintage 10x40, which were good quality for the time. The quality is outstanding, and the optics are the best I've ever seen in a binocular. You can't go wrong with Vortex. But, be mindful of what your mission is. I bought them to view distant objects, mostly stationary. If you're doing close in bird watching, you might want to opt for 10x42 or even 7x. The price you pay for higher magnification is field of view and image stability - that's not a shortcoming of the binoculars, just physics. Any decent quality modern binoculars these days are going to use roof prisms (vs. Porro prisms) resulting in a more narrow and more compact set for their power. They are small enough and light enough to toss in a day pack without taking up too much space. They come with a well padded soft case, which comes with a rather goofy harness setup allowing you to wear it as a front pack. But, it also ships with a conventional neck strap which you can use alternatively, so it's no big deal. Attaching the neck straps (or the harness adapters) is a little bit challenging, and is a bit of a brain puzzle, but there are Youtube videos on it which detail the way to do it. It's something that you only need to do once, so that isn't a big deal either. As far as ease of use, it has some nice eye cups that you can rotate in or out depending on whether you need to use eyeglasses with them. Focus is easy, requiring minimal adjustment between close in and infinity focus.

Bought the 12X50 version. I think the clarity and crisp focus of these is pretty awesome. Using at the range, at 100yrds I can see shot holes on paper very clearly. But there are a few cons. The minimum Interpupillary Distance is pretty big (60) because of the large lenses. Meaning if your eyes are closer together than average you won't be able to use these very well (or at all). Also, the large lens caps have unnecessary tabs on them the pop the caps off when pulling them out of the case. So I trimmed them off with a pair of scissors and that fixed the problem. The case itself is slightly too short to accommodate the big 12x50s, but it does work (you have to twist the eyecups down each time you put them in the case). The case straps are kind of a hot mess. I don't use them. I just attached the neck strap and leave it hanging out of the case. So overall, a nice pair of binoculars that could use some improvements.

Compare this to my Aculon A211 10-22x50: Pros: - material and finish are hi-quality and don't feel cheap like the Aculon. - soft (silicon / quality rubber) objectives and lens cap vs cheap hard plastic for the Aculon. - lenses clarity is a bit clearer, imo. - compact for portability, less bulkier than the Aculon - very short focus distance, 6ft vs 49 ft Aculon. - come with a convenient, quality and easy front carrying pouch harness for quick deployment. - from a price point, personally, very hard to beat with all the pros. - excellent customer service, imo. I manage to lost the objective lenses cap. Call the company, reach a real person and they send me a replacement free of charge. The issue is resolved within 5 minutes. Wow! Since I have this, my Aculon is collecting dust. Definitely will only buy Vortex going forward. Updated: Call to inquire about a lost objectives cap on 1/6/2022, received an entire set i.e. objectives and lenses cap, free of charge, today 1/7/2022. Very impressive! On the side note, the replacement objectives cap seems a bit more rigid, tighter fit and looks a bit different than the original one. Contacted CS (very friendly and cheerful by the way) again and has been confirmed it's the correct cap which will stretch and loosen up overtime.

This is by far the best binoculars I have ever had. While they're heavy, they are well balanced. And the weight means they are as described, water, fog, and shock proof. I can't wait to use them when hunting. I had a pair of Lieupold binoculars, same price. No comparison and the prism came loose in under 3 years (never bumped or dropped them) and now they are useless. Double vision. I'm glad, because I got twice the quality binoculars for a GREAT price now with my Vortex 12X50 HD binos. Yep, Happy camper !

Got these as a gift for my dad, and uses them frequently. Vortex seems to always be good quality. Good gift. I was satisfied with the clarity and weight as well.

Very good quality with great optics. I take these bushwalking everywhere. They come with a handy case that straps to your chest. Great feel in the hands without too much weight. Excellent quality for the price.
