I just set up the midi keyboard with cakewalk. It works, but it makes click noises when the keys are released. Is this normal?

No. Mine doesn't do that. I use FL studio.

Will this work for garage band?

Yes, it's perfect for GarageBand. I bought it especially to use with my iPhone or iPad and it also works well with Logic Pro too.
