My Life

Sure this book is long but you are basically getting his life and what a life it is. I like how he doesn't become President until almost exactly halfway into the book so you get to see what made him who he was/is. I think this book is a must read for anyone that wants to make a run into politics, in many ways it is almost like a how to do book. Clinton was a sly devil and you get to see why so many of these hardcore Republicans hated him. You also get to see his roots and where he comes from and why he does what he does and did. Just for fun I looked over some of the one star reviews about this book and you can tell that most of them didn't even read the book. They repeat a talking point of calling this book "My Lies". Other one star reviews ask why Clinton didn't talk more about his cheating and talk about how his daughter felt about it. That seems almost sick and twist but whatever; some people are just sick. It is a long read but it is best to look at it like a series of books. He does a great job. I've highlighted so many things in this book (kindle is awesome, get one!). Clinton was the man. Wish he could run again. I didn't like all of what Clinton did as President but now I see that he had to play the sick game of politics for a greater good. Politics is a nasty business and you see that in this book but you also see how Clinton would dance around to get what he wanted. This is a must read if you are a Clinton fan. This is a must read if you are going into politics regardless of your party because you'll learn a lot. This is a must read for any fan of history because his life was living history and you get to see it first hand and he explains things well enough for those of us who were too young to remember things or too busy with being a kid. This is a must read for whoever is smart enough to fix this current economy. Someday I would like to meet President Bill Clinton and thank him for what he did for America, remind him of what he couldn't/didn't do for America and then thank him for this book. He played the system to help make it a little better for the little guys and now you can read how he did it. And another thing! I can't help but notice how a lot of the players back then are still in our systems and how even the small timers at the time that Clinton would introduce us to in this book are around today and are now major players. Maybe that is part of what is wrong with our system today, all the hang arounds that become corrupted over time..

First of all, I find it a sad commentary that readers have decided to review the book, not on its merits, but on their already formed opinions of Bill Clinton himself. Since ppl either love the man or hate him, I suppose that's no real surprise. So, in the interest of truth I'll state my position on the man: I believe Bill Clinton will be remembered by history in a far better light than Ronald Reagan. I voted for him twice. I devoutly wish I was able to vote for him this coming November. The man has his flaws - as human beings, we all have them. But I like him more *because* of his flaws. Get over it. It's an opinion. Everyone has one. As to his book -- I found it moving, human, and compelling. I wasn't so much a fan of his technique however. Particularly in the beginning, his prose is stilted, as though he knows he must give rein to his life, but wishes he didn't have to. Up until he enters Georgetown, the book reads more as a series of loosely connected sketches, than an involving portrait of his life. But once he gets going with the political detail -- he shines. His enthusiasm is real. His belief in making a difference is real. His love of the game (and don't kid yourselves -- politics is a *game*) is infectious and sometimes soaring. But, unlike his speeches, his personal magnetism is dampened. Perhaps it's that we can't hear his voice, or see his face. To do so would increase my enjoyment of the book - because it's his force of personality which is most compelling, using voice and body language to fully engage the person(s) he's communicating to. Technically he's a competent writer. I would have been surprised to find otherwise. At times he turns out a lovely phrase. But his true gift is direct, person-to-person communication, and that's why he gets 4 stars here instead of 5. I hope he decides to continue writing. Tackling your own life as your first project is daunting without the additional pressures of his own particular standing. I'll be very interested to read his next effort.

Let the pundits have their day. Their rhetoric is balderdash compared to Mr. Clinton's careful documentation of his life and his time in office. Did he have fun? Was it personally rewarding for him? Did he face tragedy and subterfuge? He can run with the big dogs! He deserves every reward we can give him and his family for his effort to make the world a better place and to change the country and the planet for the common good. Bill Clinton is a master politician and a man who beat the machine designed to defeat him. What President Clinton has done is to successflly answer his critics; he exposes the " vast right wing conspiracy" for what it is. What is most evident is that while he was President, he was working, thinking, seeking solutions, inspiring visions, and using his time to lead in a progressive, compassionate, visionary way. I can't think of a president in my lifetime who possessed the candor and conviction to write such a book. My only question is to wonder why the fact checkers did not verify the Sir Edmund Hillary connection . Some say the book is a boring collection of insignificant data. Historians and presidential scholars would love to have a record such as this from every president. Can you imagine such a document from Washington, Jefferson , Lincoln, TR, Wilson, FDR, Kennedy,any of them? Clinton has rasied the bar! We have only one man with the foresight and talent to write it down. Thanks,Sir, for all you have done to make our lives better and for your service to our country and for this record of your acheivements. For a discerning reader, the book is a major acheivement. He was there. He did it! Bravo!

My kids are the fortunate product of the drastic changes made in the Arkaansas Schools during his govenor years. Despite what your political position is, only those who lived through those years of teachers who literally could not read, and Bill and Hillary's tenacity in sticking with a goal under horrible controversity DEMANDING changes can truly appreciate what this man did. I felt he wrote well of the Arkansas years. Like several other readers, I feel the publisher did Bill a disservice by damanding everything be put into one book. I got a feeling in some parts that, true to his nature, he was "running behind schedule" on the transcripts and submitted some scribbled mush. For the most part, however, this was one man trying to share his experience of politics in such a way that the average person can taste, feel, see and smell what it is like to run for office, and how it affects your personal life. Describing their homes, what he ate in college, etc. put a live person into the body of President. After all, is there another President we feel safe in calling by their first name? I found it rather refreshing that he was honest in admitting that the Presidency has its perks in getting FREE concerts, travel, meeting neat people, etc. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to experience what it may be like to run for office. After all, the title of the book is "MY Life,": not "History of the Clinton Years.." p.s. Bill, if you read this, Hillary has a lot of support in my town!! From an Independent voter!

"I will study and get ready, and perhaps my chance will come." -with these words referring to how that encounter with President Kennedy affected him, William Jefferson Clinton starts the exposition on his life's work. The books reads like a diary from Clinton's boyhood to right after leaving office, having served the maximum term for a US President. Clinton's recall of past friends/acquaintances is quite photographic - it seems he already knew that he would become important enough to publish his own memoir and needed to remember names. Quite interesting is his evolving campaign strategies that took him from attorney general to Arkansas governor and eventually to President. In this field, Clinton has no peer. In fact, he frets more about his political mistakes like the car plate tax that cost him reelection as a governor, than his personal failings(the Lewinsky affair was treated more as a political failing than a personal one). Much vitrole is of course reserved for Ken Starr - the independent prosecutor whose appointment he approved to his deep regret. All in all, the book is saved by its subject as it tends to drone towards the end. The reader has to labor just to get a few morsels of information but it's worth the effort. His insights on his successor proved to be prescient. Also pertinent are his thoughts on "Black Hawk Down" in Mogandishu, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Bush vs Gore. In the end, people would want to know what the first Baby Boomer president thinks and stays with him till the end of his story.

I bought this book as soon as it came out and I was more than impressed when I saw the quantity of people that was at the door of the library. It was so crowded that I thought that I wasn't going to be able to get one. Well about the book I can tell you that it's very dinamic even though it's way to big and that's why I rated it with 4 stars instead of 5. But believe me it's worth it. You can get the change to know the whole life of one of the most important men on earth. Everybody knows that Bill's life has been through everything and what it's very funny is when he tells his story with Monica and the day he told Hillary. He says that she sended him to sleep to a couch. Imagine the president of the U.S sleeping on a couch. You can also learn several things here. Actually to review this book it's not that easy because you go through lots of important stories and it's very difficult to tell everything in a short way. Another thing that I would like to say, is that he narrates everything in a very relaxed and fresh way that helps you to read it faster and don't make you tired. Well your hands are gonna get tired because of the weight of the book. Get it, you won't be sorry at all. I think that he has been one of the best presidents of the United States. The country was stronger and peaceful and what I don't understand is how some people wanted to make him quit just because he had a lover. I mean ok, but how can you change a good president just for that but well, somethings are difficult to understand.

What an excellent read, although it took me many months to finish. It was well written as to the use of words and sentences, having clarity and substance. I swear Bill must have had his rolodex next to him as he wrote his book. There are the most miniscule of names of people you would not think he would remember. If I were to go to battle I would want Bill to be with me. I feel I could trust him not to run away at a critical moment, but to stand up and make peace. He is dynamic in his own being. I wonder if he radiates the charisma that his words portray? I was sorry to learn that our government was so interested in itself at the expense of us citizens. It is a wonder we are still a country. This book will make you dislike all forms of politics and you will learn that you are really nothing to these politicians. I think Bill should have found out he needed to toot his horn more than he did. I do recommend reading this book with a pencil, ready to make comments in the margins. My book is a mess of scribblings. Bill has a well balanced piece of work that does not get stuck on one subject. He does think he has to do everything, however, or it will not be done. His problem, if there was a problem, was he tried to do to much in the alloted time. Jimmy

I view President Clinton's My Life as an excellent book for researchers, educators, and students who want to work in government. It has lots of data. On style, we knew that he could speak well and communicate. Now, we also know that he communicates well with the pen. This is a great read. He deals with philosophy. As a researcher, I tested the book's index to determine his philosophy. He seems to reject Plato, based on a class he took at Georgetown. But, he doesn't speak of Plato's opposition, Aristotle. So, the questions "what is knowledge" and "how is knowledge produced" are unanswered. He discusses The Third Way. The Third Way is a political philosophy that would operate in between the opposites, democracy and socialism. This has great potentials for all humans worldwide. He was developing this political philosophy with Tony Blair, et al, while he was still President. He discusses this new political philosophy often and identifies other people who are working on it. I hope that he continues his thoughts and acts on developing the Third Way. On economics, President Clinton's efforts against a balanced budget, which is standard goal of Republicans, should be respected by anyone who reads the Preamble of the Constitution and the phrase, "... In Order to form a more perfect Union." A balanced budget cannot produce a more perfect Union. Instead, it produces economic equilibrium and an economy that oscillates around the equilibrium point. Only sharp monetary game players win with an equilibrating economy.

Il est un des POTUS (President Of The United States) les plus célèbres et appréciés. L'ouvrage est bien écrit et facile à lire. Je recommande à ceux qui veulent découvrir ou ré découvrir ce personnage.

Heavy and you’d better be good at remembering names…… and I think Clinton is after beatification…… he doesn’t seem to put a foot wrong……. still as we endure Trump, I suspect this is a breath of fresh air in comparison…… be prepared for an epic voyage ….. and hang in there….. it might be a trip worth taking….
