It Works!
I tried a number of searches on a number of online sites and this was the only item like this that I found. It does work and works well. The handle of the brush fits securely. Many thanks to the person that mentioned that the adjustment wing nuts kept loosening. As a result I was proactive and tightened the wing nuts from time to time to be safe, a minor nuisance. Using this extension was the safest way to cut in and paint around the door trim (masked) in our stairwell as I was able to work from my 2"X10" scaffold. I was able to do a good job as well. With a long (4') handle working in a narrow stairwell was interesting but also something that I quickly got used to. I made some mess at first (thank heaven for drop cloth) but I got better at handling the extended brush as I painted. Not sure when I'll ever use this thing again but I'd say if I only use it this one time it was still well worth purchasing.

product quality and ease of assembly.
I already had one for 25 yrs.,it broke so I had to replace it. My last one came from the U.S.A.F., I am glad they are available to the public. It is a very important tool for the professional painter. Not so good for the weekend warriors.

Heavy Duty Tool. Holds Brushes Firmly With a Small Modification
Compared to the price at my local Lowes, Amazon had a good deal on these. The tool is built to last. It's built with sturdy materials through out. The metal parts of the tool are mostly made out of thick gauge steel with the exception of the brush's clamp section where flexible steel is used. The tool consists of an 'arm' with 2 'articulations'. One of the 'articulations' houses the brush's clamp section. The other 'articulation' consists of the tool's handle. The section of the tool that secures the brush consists of an upper clamp, and a lower clamp. To insert brushes, the brush's handle needs to be sled inside the upper clamp, and then 'locked' to the tool by twisting the brush right before inserting the bottom of the brush's handle in the lower clamp. The angle of the brush can be set by adjusting the tool's articulations by means of a couple of heavy duty wing nuts. The joints of both 'articulations', have notches on them to fine tune the angle of the brush really well. The opposite side of the joint connecting the tool's handle has a round shaped 'lump' that needs to contact the notches on the opposite side.I improved the contact between the 'lump' and the notches by using a metal file to 'square' the 'lump'. Shur-Line should pay attention to the quality control; before I modified the lump, the joint connecting the tool's handle would slip, and had to be constantly readjusted. I gave it 4 Stars. The tool is very convenient, as it can be threaded to an extension pole, preventing the need of having to climb a ladder to paint corners or making cuts. This tool is a much better option compared to similar tools that are mostly made out of plastic.

Helpful for hard to reach areas
I purchased this brush extender for painting our upper floor exterior shutters. It worked well when up on an extension ladder with a dangling can of paint. It was particularly helpful in getting to the top and sides of shutters that were just out of reach, either by itself or screwed into a pole.

Problems Limit Longterm Use
The brush extender works fairly well but it has at least two fundamental problems. First, it holds a paint brush but not that well and on occasion it slips out at least part way. Thus, this part of the device needs to be redesigned. Second, the two wing nuts that are supposed to allow you to change the angle and then be tightened don't work well either. The only way I could tighten them was by using a pair of pliers and even then they didn't stay tight for very long. The one part that works well is the end that screws into the pole extender. However if there is nothing better on the market and a person only needs to use it for a short time period then it is tolerable.

Great product
So glad I found this product. I’m short and could not reach the peak of a cathedral ceiling to paint, even with a ladder. On a whim, I looked for a brush extender. This one got good reviews and here we are. I was able to finish my project. One note, my control was not great but that did not matter because I used a roller after I used this product. You may need to practice with the extension, depending on your project.

Surprised how well it worked!
I had to do cutting in over a stairway and wanted to minimize the amount of time I spent on an extension ladder on the stairs. I am a do-it-yourselfer NOT a pro. I ran into a spot where I was scared to death to set up the ladder (no escape plan if the ladder moved) and so my wife found the brush extender on amazon and said it had good reviews. Out of frustration I ordered it thinking that it was likely a waste of money (at least it wasn't pricey). I was sure that my hands weren't steady enough to cut in a high ceiling using the brush extender and a pole. I tried getting the tough spots again today using this product and was very impressed by two things: 1) that my hands were steady enough to use this product on the end of an extension pole, and 2) I didn't get any paint on the ceiling and made a very nice cut in. Seeing the very good results went against everything that I was expecting with this product. I highly recommend it to avoid needing tall ladders. The product is simple to use. I have a Purdy cut-in brush with a somewhat flattened handle that snapped tightly into the brush extender. It is very seldom that an inexpensive product like this impresses me. My only suggestion would be to practice a little bit before trying to cut in just so that you get comfortable with the extension rod and the angles that you set on this product.

Junk
In my opinion this is a totally worthless item for any type of even moderately heavy use. I wanted to hold a paint scraper so I could remove some peeling paint overhead beyond my reach in an area where it was not possible to place a ladder. The device is so flimsy it could not hold the scraper steady, and, thus, it did not work at all. It is now in the trash. I could not return it because in trying to make it work I scratched it up.
