Do you have to use the wireless USB receiver to discover the mouse?

I would think you do need to use the receiver. I don't know how else it would work. I was hoping it might work with my Logitech receiver but it didn't. You must use the USB receiver that comes with the mouse.

How smooth is the scroll wheel? Is it like a typical mouse that comes to a hard stop after every scroll, or smooth?

The ergonomic mouse needs one AA battery, and the battery is not included in the mouse, you need to buy it separately.

What button do you use to get information from down arrows? I just bought this for my Mac desktop and it doesn't respond by normal clicking for this
