Honeywell UVEX Bionic Face Shield with Clear Polycarbonate Visor (S8500)

The adjustable head band makes it easy to fit and it can be positioned so that it is comfortable on your head. The field of view is really good and I have not noticed a parallax issue in the perifery. Now for the best part. Only a month after getting this sheild I was turning a 4" thick, 10" diameter piece of Oak that weighed close to 5 lbs. I'm an experienced turner and know the do's and don'ts of turning so I was practicing the necessary safety precautions. I was taking one last light cut and apparently I had a "catch" because the next thing I know this chunk of Oak smacks me square across the face. Had I not been wearing my Bionic, I would have needed medical attention. The Bionic successfully deflected the piece AND stayed atop my head in the process. There are a few sctraches in the middle of the shield, but the shield is still fully functional. And there is no damage to the frame or head piece. Even if it had been damaged I would gladly and rapidly replace it with another Bionic. My other face shield is the more traditional non-framed type often used by woodturners. While these are better than nothing, the lack of a frame makes them more flimsy and susceptable to flexing under such an impact and I would likely have left with a bloody nose. I am a true believer in this shield and will be ordering another as I teach my grandchildren to turn.

I love this face shield. Not only does it work great, but it looks super cool. It really gives you plenty of room between your face and the mask, so if you need to itch your nose mid-work this mask is for you! I like how you can interchange different tints (sold separately). It's VERY adjustable and fits VERY comfortably on my head with no issues. I simply forget I'm wearing it, which I must note has led to embarrassing moments after I leave from work... but it makes me look dedicated to safety. And for the price, you get more than what you pay for. Buy it. Seriously. What are you waiting for? The only thing I should note is that when you have it in the upright position, keep in mind that there is something hanging on your head that extends upwards and outwards a few inches, I've bumped into a few door frames and the face shield knocked against it. But on that note I must mention that this thing can handle alot of bumps and knocks and still stay resilient. This is a must have for any type of workshop. Or even if you don't have a workshop and sit in your office all day, at least you'll look super cool while doing it.

I application is more unique and this may not be the ideal product for what I needed but in the interim, it works out pretty well. I use this while melting and pouring aluminum and other metals. I have a cone 10 (I'm told), roughly 2300F, but the datasheet says "do not use for applications higher than cone 6 (2200F)". Melting aluminum and similar metals only require 1250F, but I run it at around 1500F, which is well within the range. When I first started not too long ago, I just used polycarbonate safety glasses. This protected my eyes from the heat fairly well, but my face was on fire after about 10 seconds of exposure. I wanted/still want to buy a hood but those run up to $300 which I can't afford right now. I'm not running a foundry, just a small ceramic kiln, so a face shield would do. On my first test, I figured I could get longer exposure times, so I did, up to about a minute. It still felt hot. After running that test a few times, I thought to myself, "this is not working", so I did it without the mask. Alright, at that moment, I realized that even though this mask is made from polycarbonate, it DOES help take the heat off your face/head. I hope it won't melt any time soon, but so far so good. I've been able to handle the melts and pour (only takes about 15 seconds at the kiln [hot] and about 30 seconds when pouring), so this face mask is holding up pretty well. I'm not saying this is the right mask for this application, but this is my experience with the mask. I think this is pretty much as extreme testing of this mask you can get. I rate this a 4/5 because it is lacking. It is light-weight, which is good and bad. Good because it really does seem to float about your head and you hardly notice it is there. But bad because it does feel a bit on the cheap side. It will "click" into position, which I like, since the friction/tension screw methods tend to slip and slide over time.

Hello All, It's Steve_In_TN With Another Review! This product is awesome. I planned on getting one of the crazy cool safety masks from Westworld, but those bad boys are expensive. I'll put a link below if you want to coolest of safety gear. This split the balance between looking cool and being very affordable. Construction: Fit: No issues. Highly adjustable fit Feel: I like how it sits. You can adjust to how it rests. Usability: It works great for grinding, cutting, sanding, etc. It will fit a respirator underneath if you have one that is somewhat low-profile. Best thing...you can replace the face shield if it gets messed up! Issues: A little heavy. Pros: Solid construction Shields very well Doesn't fog easily Fits a respirator (low-pro) Replaceable face shield! Cons: It's a bit heavy I would recommend this product. It provides a great viewing area, doesn't fog easily, and has a replaceable plexiglass face. I'm giving this product 5 stars just for finding those in society that shouldn't reproduce or impact the gene pool. Please read a majority of the 1 star reviews of folks that couldn't figure out that clear plastic has protective film on it. I like the product for full face protection - I purchase it for particulate projectiles in the garage (grinding/cutting/sanding/etc.) and not for paintball like other reviewers. It isn't marketed as face protection for those activities - why they'd down star is beyond me. Anyway, it feels good on my head (7 1/2 hat size) - it's a little heavier than I expected...but that's because my only comparison was partial face shields - obviously this is going to be heavier. After removing the protective films on either side I was presented with a crystal clear view - which will diminish in time (hey, it's soft plastic - it's going to scratch) ...at the price replacement isn't out of this world. My only gripe with it is having to push in the adjustment knob to get it to adjust - it just felt clunky - though once you know how it works it's not hard to operate...just wasn't expecting to have to shove it into my head to adjust. Though once adjusted it does prop up easily and flip down with the flick of your neck. It also sits far enough away from your mouth/nose to make you not feel like darth vadar (hearing your own breath). All in all, very happy with this purchase. I paid 16.79.

I looked around for a shield as my previous one had lost its shape. This fit the bill. The shield is sturdy enough to let the wood chips bounce off and so far no scratches. It is comfortable and easily adjusted to fit me head.

I got this shield after watching an episode of "Stumpy nubs." The shield is roomy for glasses and a N-95 mask. I haven't tried it with my respirator. I like it, but the set-up proved to be a pain... not attaching the headband to the shield, but the shield itself proved to be an unnecessary pain. When I opened the box, the shield wasn't entirely clear, but was mostly clear. I thought the plastic had aged as there was significant lag between when I ordered the shield and when I opened the box. Turns out there's a non-obvious, untinted plastic film covering the shield. Worse, I called Honeywell and they didn't suggest looking for this (they went right into warranty replacement mode, which, because I got it from Amazon turned into problem - kudos to Amazon customer support, especially Myla, who took good care of me, proved to make this hard). While I was working the issue, I did a little web surfing and found another review who noted his shield had a bluish-tinted film out of the box. Sure enough, after a little work, I found my shield had a film on it. It was precisely sized to the shield, so there wasn't a hint I needed to peel it off. Hopefully this will save someone else the time I spent figuring this out. C'est la vie.

I bought this for working with my lathe and I like it well enough. I like the looks and the way it raps around my entire face and even under the jaw line partially. I definitely feels safer with it as opposed to the traditional style face masks. I would have given it 5 stars but it doesn't always stay in the up position if it gets bumped. I'd rate it 4.5 stars if I could because it's not worth taking a full star away from the product. I'd highly recommend this product, especially to wood turners. Upate on original review. I've used this mask now a bunch of times since January. This has been a very good mask for me. In the beginning it didn't want to stay up but now it seems to stay up fine. It's pretty tough as well, I've taken a few hits from chunks of wood flying off the lathe. Some were small others were decent sized chunks, the biggest was a 4" x 4" x 16 1/2" hunk of wood that came off the chuck and hit me right on the lense. It definitely scared the crap out of me but it didn't hurt the mask or me. I do need to replace the lense but it's just because it has splatter spots from stains, sealers, and glue. I can't seem to find a replacement though so I may buy another mask. The price isnt bad and it's truly worth it. I rated this 4 stars on my original review ( I wanted to give 4 1/2 stars) but now I'd easily give it 5 stars.
