VOLOOM Classic 1.5” Professional Hair Volumizing Iron - Long or Thick Hair

My hair dresser showed me this iron and I was astounded. After drying my hair, she parted it and dragged her finger along the part to lift a bit of hair and drape it over the other side. Then, she did that again, lifted up a narrow chunk, and crimped the roots for a few seconds with this iron set at 330 degrees. And continued around my crown and both sides a little ways down, always leaving a narrow line of uncrimped hair near the part and at the crown. This top layer she flipped over the crimped hair. After running her fingers through at the roots to arrange it a little, she gave me a mirror. I.could.not.believe this was my fine, thinning hair. The next day, voilà! Still fluffy? Yes! And then we went to the beach and hurray! It still held up pretty well. Oh my goodness, this was the last piece of the puzzle. The key, if you want your hair to look smooth, is to have those top uncrimped hairs lay over the hair that’s crimped. It’s so simple to do. Getting a good result is so simple and quick. Each crimp takes just a few seconds. When I first had it, I set the iron’s temperature at 300F and crimped 5-6 seconds and now feel confident to use 330F for 3-4 seconds. That seems to work well for my hair, which has blonde streaks. I want to respect these hairs that have been lightened. That said, I’ve had the iron for more than a month and notice no weakening of my hair or change in color. Perfect. Any second day touch up takes me a minute or two. The iron heats up quickly. To turn it on, there’s a teeny button to push. You change the temperature from 300F to 395F in 5 degree increments by pushing the + and - buttons by the on/off one. After the iron’s cooled, you lock it with a sliding closure. The kit comes with a pad to lay it on, a small brush, and a few large clips to hold your top layer away from your working area. I don’t see any need for the brush, as the crimping technique works just fine without also needing to tease or back-comb. I highly highly highly recommend this iron for fine hair.

My hair in a nutshell is baby fine, thin, stick straight and won't hold a curl for anything. It tends to get oily and fall flat very quickly. If I didn't use my favorite hair product (It's a 10 Miracle Leave In Spray) I would have static non-stop. I have to wash and dry my hair every day, and I blow dry it upside down to get the most volume possible, but I just hate how limp and lifeless it is even right after a vigorous blow dry! I have often worn extensions only for body (both woven in and clip in), but they're a pain and sometimes show which can be embarrassing. Enter this beauty. I bought this on an absolute whim. I saw it and thought; "If anyone would benefit from that product it would be me" so I went for it. I was super skeptical though. I was also really scared by the pictures on the box and the website. Some of those ladies on the box look like my 85lb labradoodle with WAY over poofed hair. I had no intention of looking like a labradoodle, so I started small. I only set the temp to 300 (my hair being so fine is prone to damage) and did 4 chunks of hair total with 2-3 crimps on each chunk starting at the base of my hair and working down. I only clamped for 1 second max each time. THIS IS THE RESULT! It's SO much better and it lasts all day long!!!! Best of all no one can tell! I can run my fingers through my hair, pull it up into a ponytail, walk in wind (all things that are a nightmare with extensions) and it stays looking naturally fuller for hours and hours. This is completely unheard of for me and I am officially in love with this thing. I know I already said 'best of all', but ALSO best of all is how fast, easy and idiot proof this thing is to use!! It heats up instantly and truly it's nearly impossible to screw up if you read the directions. Basically you part your hair as you normally would, then I use my rat tail comb to pull up the top layer of my hair and clip it over to the other side (the way I would if I were going to put in clip in extensions). Then you separate out a chunk of hair, clamp, clamp, clamp, then pull it over and clip it down to do the next section. As I mentioned I only did this in two sections and only on the sides of my head. It took all of 1 minute, and I have all day body that I've never had in my life, with no additional hair spray, mouse or product!! Truly, if you have hair like mine do yourself a favor and buy this thing. It even lasted over night and my hair looked better than it ever has in the morning! Two thumbs way up from this girl! And yes I paid FULL PRICE for this gadget!

Growing older usually means some hair thinning and less volume, and flat hair tends to visually drag the face downward. Well, I heard about this tool in a YouTube hair stylist video, so I just HAD to try it. I have thicker hair, so I purchased the 1-1/2" iron. It definitely give some very nice volume to my hairstyle and looks so much nicer! It's easy to use, I just stamp it on my roots about two seconds and voila! Thicker looking hair! I'm so happy that I made the purchase and would recommend to anyone who wants that little bit of lift.

I actually bought this after seeing all the ads on FB and was intrigued by all the high reviews. I decided to purchase knowing that there was a chance I'd be sending it back being the skeptic that I am. However, this product actually works! I have fine hair but my stylist says I have a lot of it so my hair doesn't look SUPER thin, but it is. It goes flat easily. I also tend to have oily hair and can only get away with one day of not washing. People claim you can go longer without washing. For me this isn't the case. I still wash every other day but it does help with the volume at the root. I no longer use root pump because it adds to product buildup and gets greasy over time so this volume iron takes the place of root pump products and back combing which I'm not too great at and don't like the Elvira look it creates. Sometimes when it's windy or I pull your hair up, my kinky roots will show. It's not a real big deal, but I thought I'd mention it in case anyone would be bothered by this. I also think using this product could make you look at little like Elvira at first but once you get used to the iron you can find what look suits you such as how far down you kink or how many layers and where. In all, I think this product it worth it. One star off for claims of not having to wash your hair as often (which may be true for some) and also it adds a step to my routine which is SORTA a pain, but in the end this product is a fantastic find. Volume promised and volume delivered. I'm glad I bought it.

OKAY... I've waited a bit to leave my review because I really wanted to give this some good use before I developed an opinion. Background: I have a good amount of hair, but it has always been very fine so it looks great and full if I curl/style in many layers but eventually falls flat. So I resulted to teasing, which then makes my head like a helmet and, unless your hair is "dirty" (too clean never holds) it slides right back out, regardless of hairspray, etc. but then you're just washing your hair all over again and starting the same cycle. I've been doing this option for the last 8+ years now - even when my hair was waist length or longer. SO, finally got a good two week long run out of the Voloom and I am SOLD. This product is awesome! I worked an event recently that spanned 5 days long and I only NEEDED to wash my hair when I showered the 4th day (I hadn't washed it since a day or so prior to the event). I love being able to have the volume I want without the thickness on my head that results from teasing, not to mention the terrible nest afterwards. I have had MULTIPLE compliments on my hair (my nail guy even commented on how FULL my hair was, and then he proceeded to touch it) not to mention my hair stylist texted me a couple days after I was talking to her about it to ask for the name because she wants it! I'm telling you, it may seem pricey to some but it is SO worth it! And for those saying "try crimping your hair instead - it's cheaper" - way wrong. I grew up in the 90s and still had my Hot Tools crimper and pulled it out to try before I bought this because I assumed the same thing and, low and behold, it did nothing for my hair. Compared to the Voloom, it was like I did nothing to one side of my head. Either that or those who like the crimper don't really want serious volume! I LOVE this and am so happy I bought it! I turn it down to around 275-300 max (I try to keep heat away as much as possible) and I do my thing (quick and easy now that I've done it a few times) and I'm out the door! I don't have to worry or wonder if I have a rat tail comb in my purse or anything - it's great!

WHERE Has this been all my life. Literally cannot do my hair without it now. Instant volume. Temp control. No notes!

Love this and don't know how I lived without it! It makes my hair look like it's teased and full of body instead of flat and stuck to my head - it's wonderful and the body lasts and lasts. I don't have to use any hairspray or product or tease my hair anymore - Yay!!! I shower at night and this is a lifesaver because it makes my hair look better than right after I blow it dry with the round brush. I can get up, put a few curls in my layers, pin it up on top, and use the Voloom on the underside on 3 or 4 sections and have super volume and thick wonderful hair all day! The next morning it is maybe 1/4 less voluminous, still every bit as good as a blow dry with a round brush. If I want it exactly as good as the first day I have to curl it again and then re-do the Voloom again - but then my hair is almost too much :) So ... yes it works and it's fantastic!!! Update: So I've been using this for a while and I have gotten better at using it. I have found with my layers I like using it on the area between the top area that isn't Voloom-ed and my ear - but only clamping two times on each section. The more thin the sections are (so the more sections) the more thick the hair ends up. Then I also do the bottom layer of my hair near the roots and also clamping two times on that section to give it some thickness. In the video they show the woman doing it three times on each section of hair. This works better for me because then my hair "matches" in thickness from top to bottom. Before when I was doing it just above my ear the bottom layers looked too thin and the top ended up too top heavy. I love having my hair feel thick, I can't get over how nice it feels! On my days off I just use the Voloom every other day unless I wash my hair more often. Washing it gets rid of the kinks. When I work, I sleep with a sleep mask on wet hair ... so I end up using it every time before work.

Sadly, this product ruined my hair and I was forced to cut it. When you repeatedly crimp the bottom layers of your hair with this tool, the heat is damaging your hair (like any hot styling tool) but this was different than any other crumper or flat iron I'd used before. This actually changed my hair type altogether and made my hair unmanageable, all within 3 weeks of using it. I have thick, voluminous and curly/wavy blonde hair. I've used straighteners and crumpets daily, without issues. After using this tool, my hair became SO flat, lifeless and frizzy that I couldn't simply let my hair airdry or blow dry it. It would lie completely flat everywhere I had crimped it, so the only part that looked halfway normal was my bangs since they hadn't been crimped. I was so upset. I sent the crimper back, received a refund and had to get a short stacked bob (almost a pixie) to make my hair look halfway decent. Now, months later I still have issues with my hair and I continue to wait for it to grow out. It's more course than ever before, so frizzy that after I blow dry it I have to put serums or styling gels on it to stop the intense frizz which stands up like I've just rubbed a balloon on my head, and my hair no longer has any of the pretty, natural spiral curls that it had before. Once it grows out, my curl pattern and natural hair texture should grow out with it and I'll have life and body back in my hair. Just a friendly warning from someone who loved her healthy, thick hair: it's not worth the damage and regrowth process. Try a $10 crimper instead, or be glad you have regular volume in your hair already. I sure do miss mine and regret ever buying this product.

The hair gods have finally answered my prayers!! I have very fine, thinning hair with a few areas that are balding. Previously, I coud never get my hair to have any kind of lasting volume. I had to use a ton of product and take a lot of time to get half of the results I get with Voloom. It's ridiculously easy and fast to use. It lasts all day, I can run my fingers through my hair without ruining it, and it helps me to not wash my hair everyday. Do yourself a favor and buy one!!

Just received my voloom today and i absolutely cannot be happier with the product. It looks sleeker and smaller than I expected. My hair is very fine and thin so I tried it at 320 degrees first. I have been using straight iron to curl my hair for years so I am quite familiar with sectioning my hair, so it took me less than 5 minutes to create great volume. But it has been very hot here so after sweating for a bit I wanted to add more volume to the hair. I changed the heat to 340 and again, within 5 minutes I got amazing volume in my hair. I saw some reviews about the machine breaking down so I will see how it works after a few months but for now, I have not tried anything else (powder, mouse, curling, blowing dry techniques... etc) that works better than this! so happy :)

This actually works as stated. It takes me less then 5min to use. The actual unit feels like great quality. I get so many compliments on my hair the days I use it.

Amazing hair tool. Fool proof to use and takes less then 2 minutes to do my entire head. The quality of the tool itself is excellent. Best ' hair' purchase yet.
