Frontman and songwriter JJ Julius Son has been in the studio off-and-on for two years, allowing for a combination of globe-trotting and meticulous tinkering, resulting in a spectrum of sounds recorded around the world - in North America, South America and across Europe. The final product is refreshingly free of calculation, with Julius Son allowing each tune to dictate its path while simultaneously leaning-in to his blues, folk and rock inclinations. Review: I hate giving 5 star ratings - .......but it is better than 4. Superb follow-up to their first album, all the way from sunny Iceland :-) Review: cool album - cool album

Disappointed.... but still musically superb!
Atlantic/Elektra have screwed them! Their album A/B was superb! But the mixing on this is a bloody travesty. A/B was real guitar-driven blues-rock à la Led Zeppelin and The Allman Brothers Band. But on Surface Sounds the guitar is pushed way back in the mix. The drums over-power..... and hey what do you know, the producer often was the drummer. UPDATE: a grower. Wonderful... but still I miss the driving guitar.
