rules require people to wear a face covering or on public transport, in shops, including supermarkets, and in some other enclosed spaces, such as banks – and you can be fined up to £100 for not doing so. But, if you have a medical condition or disability that makes it difficult for you to wear one, you can self-certify as being exempt from having to wear one. To help ensure disabled people don’t get fined when they’re genuinely exempt, we’ve created an exemption card. Our exemption card comes on a high visibility lanyard. It is a durable, portable pass that you can wear around your neck while travelling on buses, trams, coaches, taxis and trains or in shops and supermarkets. It provides transport drivers, inspectors and shop staff with immediate and simple-to-understand information regarding your exemption. The bright red lanyard has ‘ EXEMPT’ written in white capital letters so it is easy to see. The credit card-sized, acrylic, water proof ID badge further explains your exemption as being due to a “disability/ condition”. Both can be shown and read at a safe distance. The pocked-sized design of the ID card (in its holder) and lanyard means it can be stored in your coat or back pocket ready for use and put around your neck. The lanyard is 20mm wide and made of recycled materials. It has a ‘safety break’ clip that detaches in case the lanyard gets caught or tangled. It can also be easily reclosed. Please note that although our card gives an easy visual aid to staff of your exemption, as people can self-certify, it’s not an absolute guarantee that you won’t be stopped or asked for more information. We would recommend that you also have proof of or information about your condition with you, just in case you are asked for it. These cards are ONLY designed for people with a GENUINE ‘legitimate or reasonable reason‘ for not wearing a , as listed under Government guidelines. If you do not have a valid reason, you may be fined.
