They do what you want but also don't dry out! I accidentally left the cap off one of them for around 24 hours but it still worked perfectly

This product is great I like the fact that these highligher pens do not soak in the pages but only highlights the page that you are on .Other highlights usually soak right through on too other pages creating a mess .These highligters are neat and clean.
